Okay so my friend has a mk2 focus rs with just cat back exhaust and when hes gives it the boot then changed gear it pop's and bang's like this:

is there any reason why our little cars dont do this? is it somthing that can be mapped in?

its because the engine is tiny in a starlet, 1.3, the RS is a 2.5 litre turbo which is more or less twice the size. This means hell of a lot more fuel/air so you are much more likely to get unburnt fuel etc in the exhaust which is ignited, causing the overrun popping.

I was told popping on overrun is due to the exhaust having a leak or a poor seal. Air from around the area that is blowing is sucked in causing the lambda to read oxygen in the exhaust so the ecu adds extra fuel the try and burn off the oxygen. Also if it is running rich there should be little or no oxygen in the exhaust to create combustion.

Our cars, when coasting on no throttle, completely cut injection pulses so it is more economical.

Not sure. how you can achieve the banging noise...

If you have a decay exhaust then it can happen but mainly when you get on throttle after coasting down.

The RSs boost spike like fuck and the Ecu chucks in a load of fuel to compensate.

So if you change right you can make some massive pops

I wonder why ford didn't just fix the boost spike over making the ecu chuck in more fuel
