deek1992
I have stripped all the seals off my 4efte. cleaned the carbon build up off of the valves renewed all gaskets and seals. car now wont start. compression test shows up no compression atall as did the wet test. obviously meaning the piston rings are ok. timing is bang on tripple checked this lol.seems as if the compression is being lost back through the inlet side of things. im thinking possibly a valve problem and i am going to remove head on Friday. but if anyone has had a similar problem and it is something stupid then let me know.Cheers derek
Danb
Lost comp on all 4 cylinders?
yaristurbo
cams timed up 100%?what did you use to remove carbon off valves, did they go back in same order? and is your tool 100%? Edited August 14, 2013 by yaristurbo
deek1992
Used a wire brush cans are defo right. And checked comp tool against another car so that is fine too. All valves and buckets went back in in same order
funny onion
Did you lap the valves back in?
deek1992
Yes but only with fine stuff to clean the seats up a bit.
AdamB
You sure the timing isn't 180 degrees out? I would double check.
deek1992
Cylinder one at tdc. Cams can't be out as marks are lined up.
Danza V
Sounds stupid, but your headgaket is on on correctly ? Edited August 15, 2013 by Danza V
deek1992
Yeah. As far as I know it can only go on one way
AdamB
The headgasket can go on two ways. But it won't affect the compression, you'll just have a monsoon of an oil leak. If you've lost compression on all 4 cylinders then it's unlikely to be something you've done with the head, that would be very unlucky. I still reckon the timings out 180 degrees. deek1992
i dont understand how the timing could be out if the factory marks are lined up on the cams and cylinder one is at tdc. Its mind blowing lol. its gonna be something very stupid. i will let you guys know WHEN i figure it out haha.
morgey
Youve timed it up on the 4e timing marks on the cam pulley? Not sure if its possible but its deffo a 4e belt? Not a 5e one. Id assume they are longer.
deek1992
If it was a longer belt it would not tension up. And yes definitely the 4e marks. I'm a mechanic so know what I'm doing but just wondered if there was something that may have happened. It's probs something silly. Will find out soon when the head comes off lol. Danza V
Weird one. I'd go with Adam and say its gotta be timing.. Unless the camshafts have beeen put back in not lined up :/. Very strange :/ Edited August 15, 2013 by Danza V

AdamB
It's the only real thing I can think of, unless there was something you done with the head, but I doubt that.
