Slight misfire @ 2k rpm - I think its misfire?

Recommended Posts

Basically, since doing all the mods to my car when i come to around 2,000rpm in ANY gear. It feels lumpy or its missing.. I cant really describe it.

Imagine your driving down a DEAD flat road, and all of sudden if feels like you hit a small bump in the road.. That's the only way i can describe it.

I have changed my HT leads to blue magnicore ones, problem still persists.. Do you think its boost related? As i can hit fuel easily, but im plodding to and from work currently until i port my wastegate, fit my HKS actuator and my boost controller.

Is this potentially something bad with the engine? It's done 83,000km's and was bog standard until i modified it. Below is the specs;

HKS Decat

HKS Hi Power Exhaust

FMIC

Air Filter Relocation

Baileys dump valve

Standard Actuator

CT9 Turbo

Standard Mani

Or im worrying its to do with fueling, as i have so much air, and not enough fuel potenially? Just dont want to risk anything that could damage the engine.

Sorry if it seems hard to diagnose, it's a weird problem to describe. Just juddery around the 2k rpm area.. then it's fine!

The ecu will control the fuelling as long as your boosting below .85bar/12.5psi so don't worry about the air/fuel mixture at these levels or below.

Ive no idea why it would run lumpy at 2k but that's my 2ps worth on the fuelling bud.

Theres probably enough Starlet specialists around you anyway to get it sorted :)

Ok that's good to know. It's really odd. It's not noticeable if your a passenger. But as im driving i can definately notice it!

Sounds like hesitation rather than a miss, does it sound like a scooby when it does it or not

Doesn't sound any different in the note of the engine or the exhaust note... It's really got me puzzled! I'm not that bad with diagnosing car issues, but this one is confusing me!

Try change the spark plugs

This was next on my hit list. I have no history of how new/old they are. When i painted my rocker, i peered in with a torch and they actually look clean, but that's the top i obviously didn't remove!

Aamir, link me Iddys plugs! I know you love a ID-Workz linking!

Mate u got the same prob as me. I changed my plugs nd ht leads still same. I hve noticed oil on 2 of the ugs so gonna chNge the gaskets in the rocker cover to see. It started put of the blue. I use heat range 6 iridium nd running stanadrd boost fmic decat nd aftermarket ecu. So will chNge ug seals nd see if that helps.

Let me know, my problem is still here, would be cool to know the solution. I was going to change plugs next month.

No boost leaks . Bov is stanard one. How do u check ignition timing. Does dis wen engine is warm. Wen cold its fine

you need a timing light to time the ignition timing properly it's 5mins for a mechanic to do! Also have you done a compression test on the cylinders to rule internal problems? Also try removing the standard bov and blocking the holes up to eliminate that being the problem unlikely it's that but you should check it to be sure. Hope you get it sorted bud
