Chris Green
I'm in the same sort of position minus the girlfriend. Live at home for as long as possible. Use the money you are going to spend renting for a deposit on your own house.
Zeldoz
I'm in the same sort of position minus the girlfriend. Live at home for as long as possible. Use the money you are going to spend renting for a deposit on your own house. That's the thing. I've looked at mortgages (Although just in my name) Natwest for instance, would offer me £80,000.. I couldn't buy a shed on a 1metre square foot of land for that!
Ollieh17
I would never rent unless i absolutely have to. Renting is money thrown away you'll never get back, and is actually a 'step off the ladder'. Better off staying at home and saving that £500 for a few years for a deposit
AdamB
I moved out for 4 years but had to move back because me and the girlfriend split up. I had a 1bedroom flat with 1 parking space and paid £700 PCM private renting + bills on top. She earned £1100 a month after tax and I earned around £900 a month after tax and I was at uni full time as well. It is epic to move out, so much independence and you can do what you want when you want, personally I certainly wouldn't bother renting again, not privately anyway because you just get raped in the ass spending money that you'll never see again. Would be far better off just saving up for a couple of years and putting down a big deposit on a place which is what I plan to do.I moved out when I was 18 and it was very stressful to begin with, but it does get easier once you get into a routine and understand what bills need to be paid etc, me and ex couldn't really afford to do much because she was a shit saver and spunked her wages like straight away, although we did go out every so often like go to watch racing, eating out etc. I would say stick it out and just save every penny you can till you can afford a mortgage, its a far better investment than anything you will ever do. Kooms
There are a lot of Pros and Cons to moving out and getting your own space. I moved out at 16 to go to college and haven't looked back and I'm now 22. When I moved back to Aberdeen after I finished college my partner and I were living in a £700 a month 2 bedroom flat with the usual bills on top of that and money was tight as she was a student and I was the only person working. We now live in a council flat on a quiet street were I was brought up and the all the bills included dont even mount up to what I used to pay. My best advise is look around at different places, prices, location, private, council or mortgages. But you need to be sure that your committed on moving out and that you and your partner will be able to cope with the bills and any unforeseen circumstances I.E washing machine dying. Also private renting is a rip off unless your willing to pay the money Id rather save to buy a house or apply to the council if I had the chance to do it again.
