kavan-k
I know its in the wrong section but I need a quick reply :/ have a 97 v here and its a wee project to put back on the road, bought it with the passenger side shaft hanging out of the gearbox, the lad said he hit a pot hole and it popped out, is there a seal or anything to put on before I re fit to see if its ok? And if its not, are the shafts the same for face lift and pre? Cheers in advance!
morgey
Did it rip the suspension off or something? Almost impossible to pop the shaft out without.I'd check that the pop ring is on the end of the shaft to make sure it locks in.And yes there's a seal fitted in the gearbox. Quite a tight fit and doesn't usually come out when removing the shaft. They are about £12-13 new if you want to replace them for the sake of it
kavan-k
Its a bizarre one, need to have a better look and see the damage properly! Going to have a look now! I will get a new seal just to be safe! Pop ring on the gearbox side of the shaft?
kavan-k
Rear gearbox mount is fajucked, thats why its popping out I would think lol
morgey
On the cup that goes into the box there's a metal ring that sits in a groove. It should stop the shaft from coming out. I would expect the gaitor to split Or separate before the shaft Came Out the box, hence why I mention the snap ring

morgey
Think There's a vibration dampener on there usually. Not really needed.I'd say that's been broke a while looking at that and how rusty it is.
