high compression forged engine

Recommended Posts

Thats a nice build whats he done with his ignition leads never seen them like that before?

He's using CDI ignition system with 4 coils.

Ive even thought of going 9:5:1 I think wickedep have run a few starlets of that compression but dont know how much boost you would be able to get through that

It depends how efficient your turbo and intercooler are, you'll probably find that on something like a td04 you'll get a fair amount of knock at 1.4 bar because it will start becoming a hair dryer. On a GT28 or GT30 2 bar would be possible with a good map.

Whats the advantage of using a ignition system like that and where would you get one

The advantages are that you can run high compression and get very good tunablity out of it. You can't buy a system of the shelf like this. It will be bespoke (custom) jobby

The advantage with CDI is that you don't have to wait for a coil to charge, all the charge is stored in a capacitor, which can then be discharged by just an on/off switch. Downsides are that its pretty costly requiring a standalone engine management system and a seperate CDI module, it also chews through spark plugs.

You don't need to touch the ignition system unless your going for 1.7 bar or more on something like a td05 or bigger, or around the 370bhp mark.

Theres literally no reason why a road car needs to run CDI ignition, it was only developed for race engines which use compression ratios of like 13:1 and up.

Where are they based mate

They are based near Doncaster, Yorkshire. It's the same company that tuned robH's car and john pattisons.

He also mapped Simon veals stock sleeved b16 turbo eg drag car.
