Idrees
Hi I need to buy a helmet to use on track. I am also looking to buy a bike later this year, so a helmet that I can use on both would be best. Any recommendations please? CheersIdrees
funny onion
My dad always seems to go for Arai helmets. Can't comment too much as I don't have a bike but my track helmet is just a plain black arai helmet. Seasoned bikers will no doubt suggest others
Snow
always liked shoei bike helmets, pricy but safety is worth it
Johnboy GT
I was actually looking at the same last night. Speaking with a biker I work with I was told that it's better to go for a carbonglass or fibreglass helmet appose to a thermo plastic helmet. Thermoplastic helmets tend to bounce if you have an accident which would hurt your neck etc. Shoei only make fibreglass/carbonglass one's also. Good to shell out for a decent helmet rather than saving cost here for obvious reasons.CheersJohn
AdamB
As far as I'm aware, depending on which organisation you book with regarding track days they ask for Snell approved helmets which rules out all motorbike helmets as they are not fireproof lined with nomex. I've already got a bike helmet (AGV) that I've had for a few years, I used it on a trackday through javelin at Bedford, but a friend of mine said that he had to rent at Silverstone because his helmet wasn't Snell approved. I'm also currently looking at getting another helmet, likely a Bell RS3/7.
Arnold
I've got a Shoei bike lid, which has been fine for track days, and Karting. Edited March 12, 2015 by Arnold
TimD
You will need to compromise somewhere if you want a lid that will do both. I wear a Hedtec helmet (https://www.hedtec.co.uk/products/full-face-demon-hans/), but that wont be suitable for biking. For what it's worth, I've never had my lid checked at a track day.
