Gnuen
Hey I have an standart EP91 Engine (1,3 75 Horsepowers). I heard that the intel manifol and the ECU is the only difference between the Starlet and the Corollas from the same year. Has anyone tried making that mod, My best friends Corolla 1,3 drives smoothly and does not feel thoes couple of kg heavyer than mine when racing each other, but is it noticeable in my starlet if i make that little mod ? And how complex is it, i'm no mechanic but i'm not afraid to get grease on my hands and try something new Otherviese i'm thinking about engine swaps there's The two paseo engines 5EFE (I know that some Japaness starlets are born with that engine) and the more atractive 5EFHE, they should as far as i'm informed be easy to install, with engine mounds and eletronics and so on. But I'm a bit more hook on a 4AFE 1,6 114 Bhp Swap since that engine is more common here in Denmark (on corollas)... but since i haven't been able to find anyone who has carried out that swap on the web I'm guessing that that's more of a hassle ? The Glanza sounds like the most fun engine of them all and with a front cut it could be a possibility but since i only have one car ,and use it for more than 10 hours of transport each week, i would hate to wait to long for spare parts in case on an engine break down... ste91
I'm no mechanic either but I do have a bit of knowledge, and I don't know all that much (compared to some people on here) about the engines you mentioned. But I guess I can try to give you some help (I'm bored and it's 3:45 AM, lol). You can use the inlet manifold from Corollas (ae111 I think, it's the bug eye'd style one) on Starlets, which will give you better top end performance, and is an easy fit it's just a matter of taking the old one off and bolting the new one on, there's loads of topics around here which give you all the info you need.If you could get hold of a 4EFTE that would give you the best performance, there are a few differences between the standard 4EFE and the turbo version, such as the con-rods. Which is one reason why you need a full swap rather than just bolting on a turbo to the standard 4EFE.From what I've read 5EFE swaps have been done before but I don't know much about them.Haven't heard of 4AFE swap.Aslong as you don't mess around with it you should have no problem at all with the Glanza engine (especially if you can find one that hasn't been thrashed).Like I said I don't know all that much so don't take my word for it, but I have done a fair bit of reading the past few weeks, hope it helps. Rich
As Joz has mentioned the Corrolla manifold has been extensivly covered and we have proof of the benefits made by such a cheap and simple mod.The 5E-FE has been done a couple of times on here and from what Joz has mentioned in a few posts all you need to do is change something like two sensors the rest is plug and play.4A-FE would not be a worthwile mod as it is the economy version of the 4A-GE which comes in 16v or 20v form.4A-FE (I was led to beleive) is about 109bhp4A-GE 16v is about 120-130 BHP dependent on version (Check out twincam.info)4A-GE 20v is about 150-160 BHP dependant on silvertop or blacktop4E-FTE would be the best option here as it comes in the starlets as standard. However there are more engines to cover, including the newer toyota engine.Rich.
