Running-in freshly built engine

Recommended Posts

Guys, Im building a 5EFHE engine for competition use. Its nothing fancy, just a standard spec rebuild.

Its had a reground crank, new bearings, new rings and head work.

Im a bit worried about running it in, and bedding in the rings. Ive done some searching and found some info but it all involves a lot of time. I am probably going to be left with only a week or two to bed it in before it needs to be bouncing off the limiter when used at an event. It is a road legal car so it will be possible to clock up some km's, but can anyone advise on the best way to run it in without covering thousands of kilometres?

Make sure to run it in on a running in oil, like a millers running in oil. It has additives in it to bed in cams and rings.

First 20 minutes of starting the engine from new is the make or brake time for new rings. Do not let it idle to long on first start up you need to get driving it asap to put the rings under load to help bedding in.
