  1. the joy of living down south. got nothing up here, not close by or mobile. have 1 machine shop and 1 reconditioner/small machine shop. the machine shop needs the head on the bench, and the other place would do it in the car, but cant get the car to the shop as my landy is now off the road, and the golf wont pull the transporter.

  2. can be done in situ but be very carefull with the metal splinters when drilling as u know urselve they will destroy your engine is the fal in

thats the bit that conserns me. fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuckkkkkkkkkk..... really cant be arsed taking it off, but looks like i am gonna have to. think its gonna be sold soon, getting fed up of always fixing it. had it about 4 years and its spent 3/4 of that time blown up or broke.....

  3. Yeah leads are on the right way. Checked ignition timing and everything good! Cleaned all connections just to be safe.

Whipped of the rocker cover and the inlet cam hasn't been lined up properly when the previous owner did the head gasket.

Hopefully after i redo them the can will have the proper compression and fire fingers crossed!

Thanks all for he help and i will let you know if it fires

    Thanks

    James

its an easy mistake for someone that hasnt taken notice when they removed. make sure you but the service bolt in when removing cams. or it will rattle when running

  4. whats your current setup? and whats your budget?? its not a cheap upgrade going from 200bhp. for a start you are gonna have to find or build a forged bottom end. there is a few on for sale at the moment. so theres 1600-2 grand gone already, but now you have a bottom end ready to take whatever you throw at it. turbo setup depends on your manifold you get, theres a nice wepr 1 forsale on tgtt for £250 sheets, so that will take any turbo using scooby 3 bolt flange. you will be needing bigger injectors, brake upgrades, suspension upgrades, some form of engine management, fpr, bigger flowing fuel pump, lsd box, front mount, etc etc. do some research

  5. i think we need something to help new comers to the forums. Things that the more experianced startelteers and guru's could help with and also hints, tips and advice on how and not to go about tuning there cars.

ok everybody has there own way of doing things and that alot of things cant be done due to money issues.

but if we had summit thats pinned about the do's and donts with standard engines, and common failures and causes of these and how to prevent this happening.

    just an idea...

i have seen something along the lines of what way to go about mods (handling, brakes, engine upgrades etc...) but nothing about whats mentioned above

  6. Seen countless amounts of these cheap rebuild type threads now, mostly ending in tears shortly followed by a breaking thread lol.

Nah kidding on, most of us want to do things that save a few quid but you just have to weigh up the cost / disaster factor and have a think on the best option :)

exactly what this man says ^^

  7. if its spun, then its got to of done damage, also depends on how much running it got after the problem started. at most the engine needs removing, turn it upside down, whip sump and crank out, get a fresh crank with correctly sized shells (not my way of doing it) or a .25 undersize regrind with new shells of your choice and build it back up with A ****NEW**** OIL PUMP!!!!! This will get you going again until the pistons fail.....

  8. this going in a glanza? drop a 4efe in it with a 1.9mm gasket, thats what i did, but the shells that someone had put in wernt sized correctly, still go me home tho without chucking the rod, lol. went well aswell on td04 at 0.8 ;)
