Pictures anyone? I wonder what's in the box...
Oh! A SC14 supercharger!
And the new pulley fitted and tested.
And tonight's project was to grind the valves seats... left one done, middle one to be done.
-
^^^ Sure, I'll upload what I have when I get home. I don't have much, but I'll have to open them again soon, I'll snap a few more then.
I received my supercharger! Looked at the pulley and almost s*** my pants... Way too small! It was meant for 6psi (from what I read) on a 2.4L and I'm putting it on a 1.5L... I toyed around and swapped the magnetic pulley with the Paseo's Air Con compressor one. Beauty of using Toyota parts for everything, the pulleys are almost bolt-on. I had to do some modifications on the pulley, move the bearing a bit, remove a brace, try different magnets and shims...BUT, I'm back in the safe zone, 10.5 Psi instead of 17.5 with the stock pulley, and it's been tested on the bench, it works perfectly.
I'm happy.

A few things made my progress almost stop...
- That green paint is special order and is taking forever to get a new can, first order a typo made it daytona yellow, the reorder got lost between Sydney and Perth, and I'm waiting for the 3 try to get here at the end of the week.
- I ordered a full gasket set for the engine, and it's not that full. Missing the oil pump housing o-ring, impossible to find at any parts store, until I stop at Toyota today and I will get it tomorrow! only $5! --- Also missing fuel injectors seals. no big deal there...
- My SC14 Supercharger hasn't arrived yet, was supposed to be here last thursday, but changes in (time) circumstances will make me swap the engines first, build brackets and piping on the ol' 4E, then install on the 5E.
Next on my list is to clean the valves and start rebuilding the head, mesure and adjust valve/cam clearances.. With the o-ring I can reassemble the front end of the block. And when my Grabber Green shows, I can finish my brakes and be ready to install them once I get new tyres...

I'm not sure if it's import of not, I doubt it is. Trim is "Life", as is every other Starlet I see around, none modded Carat lights were from my wallet, still have the OEM available.I just can't stand have the same car as someone else! LOL nothing can stay stock, I even modded the Carat lights 3 times already, planning a 4th mod soon, if I get the part I want
Yeah I wanted a change from white and
redEDIT *CHROME* since the Aussie sun CHOPPED! the red off., so I went the complete opposite! I want to change the body colour too, what I really want would be brushed steel body with black plastics.

what's the size of that other TB? I might be interested. And what is the difference between the 2 clocks you mentionned? I see one (bottom) has one more warning light but what else?

I have them and like them. The only one around with these on, and debadged no one knows what kind of car it is. And I mean NO ONE...

I moved away from Canada first chance I got. Not looking back. But if you really want to go, Jim Morrison's lyrics are the best advise: the west is the best. Go West.

V2.0 Progress Pictures
-
Figured I could start a progress thread... I'm only on my biggest build to date.
First let's see V0.0 from just over a year ago:
Second is V1.0 from almost a year ago:
V1.1, October. Bar and driving lights
V1.2 last November, VF Commodore wing installed
V1.3 Light bar replaced by Nudge bar. Welcome to the Australian Outback...
This section is up to date. Next post, I'll present the beginning of V2.0.

bumped PM sent 2 days ago. Any news?

Current Availability please?
And any more products like this? -
Thanks a lot for the 5E-FHE cams and the inlet! Great communication, very open to requests... I took a little bit to arrive, but that wasn't Ryan's fault, and he tracked the parcel everyday to make sure I'd get it...

I just bumped my PM.

I'm in western australia... And just bought a 4age intake and 5efhe cams last week. the intake, from the pics, is a direct replacement for my 4E intake.
So still same dilema, but I' pretty sure that if I reuse the specific sensors from the 4E with the ECU, and the 5E injectors, the ECU will handle it properly.
bigger stroke, bigger injectors. same setup. ECU and oxygen sensor wont freak out because of .05L more per cylinder...

How much to get the rear plate surround to Oz? and can you mesure how wide the plate section is?

I have a 1997 EP91 4E-FE with a C150 transmission at the moment.
I have a 1992 5E-F*E with another C150 transmission on my bench.I wish to replace the 5th gear in one of the C150 to improve fuel economy. I currently make 6.0-7.0L/100km, or 40-47 UK MPG, and want to keep the same numbers or even improve them a little on daily driving after I swap the 5E in. My current RPM at 100kmh/60mph is about 3,100. I'm aiming at around 2,500-2,750.
Of course having a spare gives me more flexibility and time.
Thing is, I cannot find anything, any info on how or where to get gears, and I'm not familiar enough with Toyota transmissons to just go buy gears from another model to put in mine....

I have this 1st gen EL44 5EFE on my bench that I want to rebuild to put in my EP91 Starlet.
I have a small issue, I wanted to keep my intake (4E) because of its longer tubes, but as I was looking I noticed a few things.
IAC: the 4E is electrical, the 5E mechanical. Can the 5E ECU run the 4E IAC?
Vacuum: there is a LOT more vacuum ports on the 5E intake, and I have nowhere to connect them on the Starlet...
There is a sensor/actuator connected at the end of the 5E intake, was also connected to the IAC and steering(?), can I ditch all that to use my 4E intake? I don't have the 5E harness, just the engine and ECU, so I don't have connectors for them...
5E
4E

How of a difference is it to run a 4E ECU on a 5E? From all the things I've been looking at it would be the easiest solution, I think.
Of course all would be swapped to 5E, injectors and all, except for the intake/throttle body and the mismatched sensors, actuators and vacuum ports. -
PM sent.

I have this speed dependent noise coming from the rear, seem to be to the right. It's like a rubberish bushing sound. It starts as soon as the car starts moving, doesn't stop until the car stops completely. Engine speed, gear, brakes, E-brake, nothing makes it change or go away. Bought the car almost 2 months ago, never opened the rear drums, I'm riding 1 inch drop all around. Got a Manual EP91, Life trim, mostly stock.

I haven't got the shaking again, but it happened in the middle of of a delivery run (I deliver leaflets to mailboxes with my sis). Lots of stop and go, engine stop and starts... I live in a hilly area, maybe I had too much oil when I did my first change, but the extra oil would already have burned away since then, I drove over 3000 km. I can get a smell.
I posted in N/A, so I doubt turbo seals are my issue. Aren't valve stem seals only smokin' on startup? My Camaro has bad stem seals and it only smokes on startups... My logic points towards rings if that's one of the most common things with the 4E series... The throttle is clean, intake too as far as I could see in it when I did the TB coolant bypass last month. It has low mileage, now only 167,700km for a 97 m.y.
-
I bought My EP91 a month and a half ago, put 3000km on top of the 164,400 already on the clock.
Last week, my roommate used the car and I saw blue smoke coming out as he was driving away. Not much coming out, but I don't want it to get worst.
And yesterday, I noticed the car would shake a bit on idle, with a light squeaking noise, and it would go away with a gentle press of the GO pedal...I was considering a 5E swap, but do not have the money waiting atm, I planned this for next year...
Just a question don't judge!

I've seen someone running NA ECU on turbo engine, All that he did was a 4E FTE MAP sensor and injectors double the size. <They compensate the MAP, and the MAP reads the boost correctly...
