  1. car made some very wrong noises a while back. turned out to be this: Rebuilt the blown turbo after getting some parts exhaust side after removing from the turbo. still no idea what caused it. engine has good compression. no visible damage in the cylinders. i'm at a loss to what happened. still had some spare parts of old broken ct9 turbo's so i happened to have a spare shaft with exhaust fan let's rebuild! all done! previous turbo was blue so decided this one should be red (so i can tell them apart later) back in the car and we power on till something else breaks on the strip
  2. bought a set of injectors from mikey melling. good price, posted quick and very well wrapped! each injector wrapped seperatly to avoid any possible damage. great seller and would happely trade with him again!
  3. thx redz

  7. try to keep up and take notes, it's a quick build http://youtu.be/EYuiyp_0dNc?list=UUCCc-qKSO3vuL1n4vgm06HQ rebuild of my friends 4efte after a catastrofic engine fail 1 injector failed, melted a piston and ruined the cylinder. replaced the bottom end and gave it a propper rebuild with all new gaskets, bearrings, oilpump, waterpump etc. oh, the piston after i got it out of the old block now that's a keeper!
  8. forgot to update this. a while ago we had another drag day and me and my wife did well again my wife took the first prize, there was no way for me to beat her time. we have to run 15 seconds and over, she put down a 15.001 and i placed 2nd with a 15.034 this puts us at the first and second place of this years dutch championship for our class also just bought a gopro cam and tried it out for the first time at the track. need to fix the wind noise though. the first run with the gopro on the dash was my wife's winning run. the car should almost be rdy to run 14 seconds flat so we can move up a class but then we would lose the current championship points. so we'll hold off till next year and try to stay in the 15 seconds class. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6gIidY_18k&list=UUCCc-qKSO3vuL1n4vgm06HQ
  9. also bought a set of lightweight lenso's will be ideal for my r888 setup for trackuse
  10. Last weekend we had a dragweekend for the dutch drags championship. dragracing is still rather small in the netherlands so we are racing on an airfield. Hope we will onde day have a dedicated dragstrip near here. Had great fun at the strip though! Arrived at the strip on friday night. set up our caravan and prepped the car Saterday morning was tech inspection time. passed with flying colors and i parked her at the starting grid wich was still a little bit empty our neighbor, a v8 wakeup call works rly rly well and more big toys v8 escort! epic thing! 1000hp quatro anyone? all great stuff but not the class i was driving in. me and the missis were running in the DSL class. meaning 15 seconds and over. The car ran quite a bit faster than 15 seconds but coulden;t reach the 14 yet. so decided to stick with out class and run her smoothly to just hit 15 sec. after saturdays qualifying me and my wife were just 0.001 seconds apart! we placed 3rd and 4th in our class and the top 8 went on for the elimination races. as me and my wife drive the same car this could pose a problem if we were to race against eachother. but that didn't happen so all was fine. I failed in the semi finals and ended up on 3rd place. my wife did better and ended up in the finals. Unfortunatly she had a misshift into second gear and lost so ended up with 2nd place. My wife in the final: not bad if i do say so myself
  11. imported straight from japan toms wheels (dunno the type) wrapped in new toyo R1R
  12. removed all the broken and crappy smoked gauges and replaced them with clear white ones with peak warning. glad to have working info on the engine again didn't feel good to race around not knowing oil temp/pressure etc. lights on:
  13. Right, let's blow some dust off this topic Have been tinkering with the car (as usual) last march i was at the drags and i encountered a few minor problems. she was smoking blue, likely causes were valve seals. she was leaking a bit of oil around the crank seal on the box side. meaning i would have to take off the gearbox. and i wanted to swap out the engine loom as it had been hacked and slashed multiple times over the years for various mods and it was giving me all sorts of grief. so, let's take her apart again en yes... it failed engine out and yup, seals... i'll never buy imitation crap again! prepped the shop for engine surgery bought a few new goodies oem seals! strip it! and yups, she used oil cleaned head dismanteled and yup... crappy seals... meh fiddely work to put it all back together again new crank seal nearly rebuilt wires.... added the oil cooler mostly back together again coolant bottle, because racecar running again last bits to button up and at the track 2 days after the rebuild did about 15 oval laps and 60 drags, held together quite well pleased with the results replaced the rear wing
  14. and at last! she moved out of the garage under her own power for the first time. made a short testdrive around the block and she's running well very easy car to drive http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxQHFcsCrLM&feature=share&list=UUCCc-qKSO3vuL1n4vgm06HQ
  15. Been 4 years sofar. But we have had a lot of other projects that we did during this one so in all fairness id say about 2,5 years that went into the car. Usually 1 or 2 nights a week
  16. Thx And sorry for the massive picture overload.its hard to sum up 9 years in a few pics
  17. was having some problems with the hood locking mechanism lately and the hood didn't line up right the right corner always stood up a bit and never could figure out why. also, the support that holds it in place was preventing me from fitting the intercooler nice and flush against the beam behind it so i wanted it out off the way. the simple sollution was fitting cheesy hood pins. not everyone's cup of tea but this is a pure function over form mod for me it was quite hard to line everything up correctly and then that awkward moment of putting a drill through the hood and cutting massive holes in it... results:
  18. and we have a "small" update she's ALIVE! ran for the first time yesterday. note that the carbs still need adjusting, we had only half of the exhaust fitted and after 3 minutes we managed to find the correct setting on the choke. took a while for the fuel to get from the tank to the carbs so lots of things that still need attention but we are happy as f00k that she ran! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOFf-07zIuA&feature=c4-overview&list=UUCCc-qKSO3vuL1n4vgm06HQ
  19. thx for the comments lads still far from done and there will be loads of troubleshooting to come but we'll get there
  20. Something different... A friend of mine has had a wish for quite some time. To find and restore a classic japanese car. And he had found his muse. If you are a true car guy, you have feelings for a car, you can look past the flaws, rust and damage and see what she can be, someday... In this case i felt sad and sorry when i saw the car for the first time. For this particular car has had a rough life and was abused and abandoned. She would probably end up on a scrapheap in the not too distant future. The mission was to try and save this piece of history and restore it to full glory. My god what did we get ourselves into... I present to you: '71 Toyota Carina TA12 One of only 5 remaining TA12's in the Netherlands at that time. The good things: Car still had all paperwork and was complete. Meaning: Most bits of the interior and exterior trim was there. The bad bits: She's rotten... very very rotten. engine was dead, but she was "freshly" painted... although not in the way we like it. the engine bay: well, let's get her inside and start tearing her apart so we can have a good look at how bad she rly is. nothing a bit of paint can't fix.... right? the mighty 2T engine. allthough seazed up, rusty and an allout disaster at this point did i mention that we might have bitten off more than we can chew? finding replacement parts for a pretty rare and forgotten car, that's going to be fun. so we need to restore and salvage as much as possible. like this power brake cylinder.... right... and with a bit of luck we found a spare bit of rust someone had found it in a haystack while cleaning out a barn. we asked one question before buying it: Does the crank still turn? the answer was yes so we picked it up for scrap value. we realised we had to strip the car down to the last nut and bolt in order to do a full resto on her. we thought dor sills were optional with this model car as this model didn't have any brakes were in great condition aswell nearly done with the breakdown In order to do all the welding it would be usefull to be able to turn the car on it's side or upside down. so we made a set of A frames from wood. wood? yes... wood. plain simple cheap timber y0 the hinges: and bolted on the car: makes working on the sides and bottom sooooo much easier time to clean the body back to bare metal and get rid of all that paint muck on the car *meanwhile across town in my friends garage* work continued on the engines and he was doing a bit of headwork, flowing ports, seating valves etc. Meanwhile the restoring of various parts is going quite well. a before and after shot replacement sills going in copying and replacing bodyparts bit by bit still have a looooong way to go any guesses what this is going to be? the old radiator support was too far gone. so JW (my friend) made a replacement from scratch and now for some tasty engine pics. as we had 2 engines to play with we had plenty of choice in parts prepped and painted block preparing parts takes soooo much time but the results are hard to argue with JW coulden't resist doing some custom valvetrain work and replaced the spring system with clamps the stock ride height is soooo not done in this day and age so whe will sit a little closer to the ground. By doing so there was a need for roll center adjusters. Why buy if you can build it yourself? Found a set of Mikuni carbs instead of the ori single carb too bad they didn't fit so let's create an adapterplate engine comming along nicely in the meantime bit by bit is getting a full makeover. often little parts are overlooked like door hinges etc. but JW is restoring each and every single part. also found the perfect set of rims for the car: '76 wolfrace rims the bottom of the doors was badly rotten and needed replacing welding parts of fenders together to make a decent fender again meanwhile the bodywork was held up a while when i blew my GTT engine and the Carina was left on it's side against my garage wall while i rebuilt my engine. after my GTT was back on the road the work continued and most of the welding is done test fitting the panels to see if the welding didn't warp the engine bay too much test fitting the rear axle to figure out how to fit a swaybar to the rear. the cas didn't have this stock so needed to be custom made meanwhile parts left and right were nearing completion such as the tailgate: JW managed to find a few original emblems 3 guesses: a hint when carparts meet artwork and let's lighten and balance the flywheel because why not? a reminder what the front looked like: during construction: getting there and men can sow too! sandblasting the whole body to get rid of the last bits of paint, rust etc. coating the underside inside fitting suspention on her old wheels for the first time in almost 4 years!! a lot of hours spent on getting the body rdy for primer epoxy coating the long and tedious work of sanding/filling/sanding/filling commences JW managed to preserve the original hood as we found the car. will be a great table for a photoalbum of the build on car shows the engine bay was painted in speccle paint. not something you see a lot but it gives a cool effect and it masks the welding seams a bit and some more sanding... i can't tell you how much work sanding is. everytime you think it's perfect, you take a step back, check it all and find a slight indentation or other small fault and you can fill it again until it's perfect. and finally! primer day! and yes, still in my garage. everything in this build is DIY and at long last: paint! now the fun begins! rebuilding the car bit by bit. boxes and boxes filled with restored parts are waiting to be assembled remember the part about a guy and a sowing machine? fitted te correct wheels brand new bumpers fitted the swaybar a couple of before and after pics as a reminder what it used to be JW himself: engine bay brakes horns Still a lot to do but she's come a long way and the true definition of a DIY guy is JW, everything you see is done by himself with the occasional help from me. the car has not left the workshop once since it got here 4 years ago. not for sandblasting or paint or anything. will post updates once something more is done on the car
  21. i'm currently in the collection phase for my forged 5e build. would like to have your opinions on the setup i have in mind and any sugestions or tips you might have. goal is to hit a reliable drivable 300bhp mark i have a spare 4efte engine for parts. 5e bottom end with good crank 5e scat rods 5efhe cams Gt2560r turbo wepr mani + downpipe externally gated arp headbolts 460cc injectors 3 puck trd clutch (will this suffice around 300bhp?) microtech lt8 standalone the questions i have: pistons, what will you guys suggest? wiseco? wossner? something else? and why? what headgasket? athena 1.2mm? if yes, why? injectors big enough? any need for a custom intake or will stock do the job? any need to switch to individual coils? any other thoughts on the setup?
  22. that would shut down most of the sale thread. immagine you have a single item for sale, you want to post it and it tells you to wait for a letter to authenticate your location? *seller leaves and never comes back*

  24. thx sacha work will continue on the car. hope to start the new project this winter. currently in the collecting fase for a forged 5e build. also have a new unmolested chassis that will be the new home of my gt turbo build. will be stripped, seamwelded, full cage welded in, painted, forged 5e dumped in. the whole 9 yards during that build i can still cruise around in my current gtt as i have a lot of work to put into the new chassis first. have a spare engine to build the 5e with. and once all that is done it's just the body parts, lsd box and shocks that will need to be swapped
