  1. surely a manifold runner thats 1.5ft long isnt going to help spool? Has to travel a mile before it gets anywhere near the turbo

I hope your reffering to the drop in EGT's? ;)

Length of the manifold doesn't really effect spool apart from the drop in EGT's over the length, 1 thing that is effected is transient response, but a 1.3 turbo is hardly going to excell in this area anyway. What's more important is boost pipe length and this will be kept as short as possible.

If you had any knowledge of fluid dynamic's you will know the overall length of the pipe isn't directly proportionate to it's flow, bends etc etc are far more important.

Whats more important is turbo spec, manifold design, cam spec's, head spec's, mapping, wastegate placement etc etc.

The wastegate placement (which isn't yet in the pictures) is very good in this style of manifold, this was my main criteria, the second criteria was to retain the standard radiator.

I could have gone for a smaller runner size and had a tighter manifold, but when we go 1.5 this would hinder performance up top.

Subaru manifolds are over double this length (for 2 banks).

Time will tell, let's see how it boosts when it's done :)

  2. and some boost ;)

The boost's all gone with a cup of T ;)

Christ almight, what the hell does that spool at?!

I'm hoping for full boost at 5200, but i'm going to rev it hard this time. It seems late, but it's only going to be like driving a N/a vtec again, so i'm not that fussed.

It's a twin scroll turbo, which helps with spool, and i'm going to run a divided exhaust housing with twin wastegates, this again should help with spool.

    I love boosts

    best chocolate ever

    Your right :)

  3. have to say, never seen just how puny a corsa engine is, makes my GA look like a frickin V6 in comparison.

i also think it has an electric "super turbo charger" cause i see a wire going into the pipe

How big do you think your engine is?

The difference in the bit what matters is 100cc. :)

  4. yeah its a b16, hes been workin on it for a while now dude, not fully sure what the part list is but il ask him and il try and get some pics. best bit is the lauch control!!

    Is he using Hondata S300?

Launch controll's cool isn't it. I make just over 1 bar boost on the spot ;)

Tell him to keep an eye on the old EGT's though, they go through the roof with 2 much retard.

  5. Well it depends on wht yur using it for. If drag then no. but if your planning for road/track. Brakes need to be capable of bringing the car to a holt quickly.

like the manifold. Seems close to the radiator. Are you planning to ceramic coat it or heat rap it.

Like i said on brakes it'll probably use the celica 2 pots, but i was trying to make a point, if this was to be a drag car standard brakes would be fine.

It's not actually that close to the rad, i made it as close as it could be without causing a problem, in the pic's it's not bolted to the head, there's probably about 15-20mm clearance min.

  6. er.... interesting manifold.

why did you choose that design? youll be rewelding that once a month.

I'm using that design because it's the most equal length while retaining the standard rad and having a good flowing wastegate, the gate will come from the 90 just after the collector. After extensive research i think this design will be best given the room and flow/style of the car.

It's fully back purged 3mm thick, preheated V'd and with filler, what make's you think it will crack?

not to sure on that mani desgin to be honest, thought it be best to re route runner 1 so it comes in closer, where did you get your head to mani flange made up?

Not sure what you mean? A shorter pipe from runner 1? I don't think that would be possible while retaining the design.

Head to manifold flange was made up by a mate.

  7. cool man, you know what power your puttin down then? my homies just had his civic built up and mapped at 400bhp at 1.5bar or summet. luv the holes cut out the bumper! if i new it was you i would of come up and had a gud look at it but wasnt sure!

You should have anyway, loads were looking around the car.

The bumper was flaring out at the side's when doing high speeds so i cut the holes and it stopped it, must have made a reasonable difference.

I wasn't putting down a lot at on the day. Probably only 300 ish. I reckon i'm over 400 again now, more boost timing and leaner but simply didn't get the time to map it on the way to TOTB and while tweaking between run's i couldn't get it right with only 4th gear for reference and 3-4 run's down the strip.

What build have they done? Any pic's or links to it?

    B16?

I'm currently involved in a H23 build. That will put down some really nice numbers.

I'm coming to the end of the road with this car, i think i'll sell it shortly and start something on a better base.

  8. How did it go? :p

In a word badly, but i suppose it wasn't all that bad considering. I had a puncture the night before (stranded on m1 at 11 with no spare) so had budget tyres on the rear, i fitted off a mates car at half 11)

Set off at 6 and by 7 i was spannering the turbo off at the side of the m18 after a pretty caterstrophic failure. Anyway with 10 miles to run in and map a new turbo i suppose we did ok, i left the car on the rich side, which with the high inlet temp's and compensation maps the car was really rich on the strip.

i 'think' i may of seen this yesterday, will have to look through the pics..

If you've got any pic's or vid's stick them up here.

was this the one runnin at 10 of the best on sunday? with holes cut into the rear bumper to reduce drag?

    Yes i was. :p

Are you a member of passion ford aswell. Im sure i've seen a thread of your car on there. My name is because!!!! on passion ford. For sum strange reason i cant get on the website since teh 27th of july, it just comes up with 'server cannot be found' :p

Does this happen to you or is it just my internet bieng gay!!!

I badly want to know how the fords did at totb.

    Nice civic

Site's sometimes a bit iffy. But not that bad.

Results for TOTB are all here.

    http://www.redlinemag.com/

for those who asked yes it was him at TOTB with the holes in the bumpers

he blew a turbo up on the way down there so had to change his turbo at the side of the road lol

as far as i know he did a 12.5 but i left abit early so dont know if he did any better or anything

Yes i think my best was 12.53 at 112mph. I should have been doing over 120 terminals but it didn't happen on the day.

Managed a 4th in handling on my first run, (I braked for a corner that wasn't there as well) My second run i pushed a little bit harder.... a bit 2 hard. And sent it sideways through the cones. (good rear tyres) I never even pumped the fronts back up after drag so did the handling with 9psi in the fronts.

A long day but a good laugh. :p

  9. its a must because the stock brakes are shit. ofcourse power has something to do with brakes, if you can't stop when you're moving rapidly then its a death trap. there's a difference between slowing down safely and dangerously, the stock brakes are gash, especially when you're moving.

be interesting to see what you'll make with it anyway. also, wasn't much point posting a pic if the only thing in place is a turbo precariously hanging there, hence asking about the cat etc. was merely an observation ;)

Stock brakes aren't the best, but there not the worse on a car. It really depends how you brake. Rather than spending money on brake's next time, i suggest a lesson on driving.

    I've got 15" disc's and 6 pot's on my evo, if i drive like a tw4t they'll fade just like any others.

90% of what contributes to good brakes is the pad material.

If you put big front brakes on your car and try to stop from 80-90-100, standard brakes will probably beat them 9 times out of 10, they will be more consistant and better setup than the average joe messing around with things. What they won't do is last as long before they fade.

But power doesn't ever mean you need bigger brakes, driving style does. If this was a car i was building for some1 else i'd strongly recommend changing the brakes.

The civic is on standard brakes, also, take a look at most drag car's with 13 and 14 inch wheels, in the evo world you downgrade your brakes to smaller 1s in order to put drag tyres on in some cases.

  10. there not "gash" there good for there intended use, holding back 130bhp, there only garbage when you start pushing them beyond there intended use, my brakes are stock apart from greenstuff pads and i out broke an fto the other day (think it was kye, rick)

also is that the stock cat rick on minces glanza ?? so when it was running about beating most things at 202 bhp it had stock cat ??

No i took the middle out of it.

  11. nice how much power you except to get out of it. And at what psi.

    BIG BRAKES ARE A MUST

It should make over 250 at 1 bar boost. Not sure on the power and boost level that will fainlly be run just yet.

Why are big brakes a must???

I have some celica twin pot's for it anyway. But power has nothing to do with brakes.

Gaz- Yes 750's for the civic.

  12. is that the OEM cat still there??? ;)

Yes and if you look carefully OEM injectors... Do you think it'l work ;)

It will have a 2.5 inch downpipe and full mandrel exhaust.

looking good mate, seen your civic in banzai sounds like a it a bit of an animal

Civic's fully stripped at the minute, i'm hoping to get the block prepped tomorrow and picking some new injectors up, then making a new manifold ready for TOTB.

  13. seen this in the flesh it looks a reyt sleeper (apart from now its got rota grids off his bros glanza)

seen/heard it go aswell it flippin amazing

yet to have a passanger ride in it yet though (hint hint rick ;) )

and ofcourse all work done by himself a true testiment to his skills

and then theres hes evo :p lol

    Haha, cheers.

No engine in it, took it out the other day, new 1 will be done in 2 weeks ready to be run in for TOTB on the 27th!

  14. is this yours?spec?pics

    Yes it's mine.

    Eagle rod's.

    YCP piston's (modified)

Standard block just honed/glaze busted. 0.004" p2w clearance at largest point.

    ACL bearings

    Gen honda head gasket.

    ARP head studs.

Modified oil pump original 144k mile pump :p

Modified block and girdle for rods to fit.

    Head work by myself.

Cheap cast manifold, (soon to make a new 1 but you never get time to do my own car)

Hondata s300, socketed and mapped by me.

6 paddle clutch, custom flywheel, (extra clamping force)

Lot's of little bit's to make it all come together.

    At brunters it did

    0-30 in 2.07

0-60 in 4.76 (did 58mph at the time in second gear ;))

    0-100 in 8.93

quarter in 12.53 at 119.6 (limiter in 4th)

140.6 limiter in 5th i did raise the limiter but couldn't be bothered to do another top speed run as it was never going to be very good.

On the day the car weighed 930kg's plus fuel and me.

It's since had plastic windows and about 30kg's of weight removed from inside the car.

New engine will be built when i get chance for TOTB.
