Another 5 door. Same as mine.

    Nice work as always.

Quite useful 😂 was a nightmare getting out the car all the time in my last car

Thanks, hopefully get my new heater blower soon, takes forever in the morning to red rid of mist and ice atm without it lol

  2. Small update, decided the blown bulb behind the dash that was supposed to light up the 0-30mph needed changed as its been months I couldnt see my speed at night, went and bought blue led's but kinda ditched them and just bought standard as I quite like the green, what an absolute pain in the ass it was to unplug as I didn't know you had to unplug the speedo cable from the gearbox to be able and pull it out, spent an hour fidgeting with my fingers behind the dash to try and unplug all the clips and then the dreaded speedo cable, nails were sore for the whole day 😂 Boy did I not know the worst was to come when I tried to plug the speedo cable back in...spent ages trying to find a way to plug it back in, braved it 2 days later again after people in starlet society on fb told me some tips, managed to slip my tiny hands under the dash with the speaker cover panel off and plug it back in eventually...next step is to install the new heater blower I've ordered as mine just gave up on Friday, installed the win deflectors too which helps the look of the car but don't think I've got pics yet. First pic is a flooded road when I was out on delivery, only pic with the blue led's
I've also been thinking of the idea on getting an exhaust but I'm really not wanting it to be chavy, it's mainly just to look better and just have a little bit of sound. Seen this Starlet get this setup in a place in East Kilbride and wondered if the owner is on here and had videos on how that sounded like? I've got to call Toyota too as I just got a letter about the recall for the airbag too, on a 22 year old car 😂

  3. Decided to tint the windows and sunstrip to make it a bit darker and look better imo as well as a sunstrip to help with the low winter sun :) Currently trying to replace my doorhandle after I somehow broke it when casually opening the door...🤣 and what a PAIN is it to do the last bit, gave up the other day currently using tweezers to open the door, any tips on getting the damn flip over the metal rod? I really can't seem to do it especially when you put your hand somehwere you cant see.

Another question I was thinking about asking, would an exhaust be of any use for this? As in do they sound horrible with one? I know a lot of these types of cars wouldn't sound good, I'm not talking about cheap ebay ones I'm thinking about going back to C+C exhaust in Glasgow that did my Celica, since I'm really tempted on getting a turbo conversion done I suppose it would be needed?   video of when I had my Celica should be attached to this

Just waiting on a set of wind deflectors too but could only find front ones, I've seen starlet with rear ones too, would anyone know where I could get a set of rear ones? Thanks :)

Also thinking on changing my belts as they often squeel when I'm idling with the brake pedal pressed in for some reason

  4. Okay thank you :) seen you have a corolla gearbox but I'm assuming I'd be able to run it on the stock one? I'm not sure 220hp is what I'd be looking for just yet considering I'm 22 and only got 2 years NCD I'm sure they'll ask me for a printout of the power first and would f**k me if it was over 200hp lol.

Would I be right in assuming it would cost in and around the £5-600 mark for the parts without the turbo included? I have never done such a thing and half the stuff you told me I wouldn't know what to do with them would you have a rough idea of labour it would take? Like 10 hours or 20 etc? So I can have a rough idea on how much to keep money aside for it too, I'm really wanting to turbo my starlet and I've more or less got money in my savings to spend on this just need to check with my insurance too and see what quotes I get I'm supposed to renew on the 4th of November so be a good time to get a rough estimate on that too once I phone them up :) Also I'm guessing I don't need to get everything installed at the same time? Could install some parts myself if my ability permits and then wait until I can get someone to install the rest? Sorry about all these questions by the way all I ever do mechanic wise is service my oil, sparks,  discs, pads and that sort of stuff on my Celica and Starlet, never really done anything much more complicated than that :p

  6. Also just to update I've done an oil change and sparkplug change just now, no pics of it as I wanted to get it done asap with the bad weather lol. Got my local garage to fit me my new rear shocks too for £30 which I think is a very fair price? shocks were also only £21 each from autodoc on sale which I'm loving about the Starlet just now cheap everything is for it lol. Noticed some of the pics i shared in the top of the thread have become url links instead so here's a pic of it as the other ones are gone for some reason :)

Hi, just seen the reply, thank you I was on the celica club forum aswell and on the facebook page celica club uk before it got hacked and had to be shut down, I'm also in Starlet Society on facebook if you're in that, it's quite helpful on there too it's not a childish group :)

Morning there is a list on my build thread, top of first page. This is everything you need, and In My opinion the easiest root. The fuel pumps might be the same, 4efe/4efte, but are a good age now. The unit I pulled out of my ep91 4efe+t had a light gray top and the turbo units have a black top.

Do you have a build thread or pictures up. Can't get anuff of these little things.

Hiya, I'll try find your thread and see thanks it'll come in useful, I'm sure I have a "build" thread up in the EP91 section but I'm not sure I've got much posted on it since I've only just done its oil and sparkplug change since I got it in July along with swapping the wheels but that was before I joined here lol I'll make sure to update it whenever something happens to the Starlet though, I'm thinking on getting one of those blue sunstrips on the windscreen to help not get blinded by the winter sun as its agony, got my rear shocks replaced too last month but no pics of that as I got my local garage to fit me them for £30 as I don't trust myself with a spring compressor lol. :) it's being taken care of very well though I love the Starlets too my dad used to have one when I grew up in Belgium until he sold it when we moved to Bosnia and since I've gotten it I can see he enjoys being in it everytime I drive him around always looks and points out something he remembers about his lol

  9. Hi guys, so today I just done my sparks, oil and filter change and was wondering while doing it, what is EVERYTHING needed to do a turbo conversion on a 98 Starlet? The car's only got 76k miles and has no rust underneath as it wasn't driven on salt etc so really wanting to keep the car aslong as I really can, was thinking what would I need to do a turbo conversion? I looked around various posts on here and often read the fuel mods are pointless and to just do a cheap setup as it'll do the job fine? I was wondering what that would require? If anyone has the patience to list me every single item the car would need to do so, I'm not the best mechanic about either with none of my friends into cars I don't want to mess such a big thing up so I'm thinking on getting my local garage to do it for me if you could count the average amount of hours it would take roughly, they're very honest with their pricing so labour shouldn't be too much of an issue. Anyways thanks for reading hope you guys have a nice day :)

  10. Thanks guys. So here goes the first story of my noobness, I just got my rings today. 56.1-54.1mm, I was gonna do the rears first and do the fronts tomorrow as the sun is really hitting hard rn in Belgium. But my rings seem to not fit fully in the wheel if you understand what I mean. The tip of it fits the top layer of the wheel bore it seems like but when I put it on the car, there's like a gap betweel the drum and the wheel? Tried to get a photo but really not sure if it's any useful for you guys. I did both rears anyways and did a test drive to the shops and back and I haven't noticed anything unusual but it has made me a bit para lol. I'm assuming I got a size too big from 56.1 I should of gotten 55.1? I don't have any vibrations anyways without them on but my alignment is a bit off so was hoping this would fix it since it's only been off centered a bit when I put these wheels on. I really need to learn the most basic of stuff like this sometimes...🤣

I also checked the rear shock absorber to see for any leaks and checked it was properly bolted on from the top and it seemed like it was so next I need to look at the panhard rod

  11. Hi guys, decided to start off a thread on my Starlet just so you guys can get updates and laugh at my stupidity and problems I will encounter in the future. :)

Currently don't have too much planned for it other than I'm waiting on a radio adapter for my cables since the new radio won't plug right in yet and the old one off my celica which I wanted (has touch screen and gps 😮) doesn't fit the plastic trim when I try put the console back on 💔.  (keeping the stock cassette player in the boot just for nostalgia and if I sell it I can bring it back to stock still)

Then waiting on my hub rings to see if it fixes the alignment issue I've had since swapping the wheels (which sadly rub a bit on the inner side on full lock). Once I receive them either in a few days or next week I'll also give a look at a knocking noise I hear sometimes which you guys already helped me in where to look for.

Down the road I'll be doing the brakes since they're gonna need replacing soon. I've never done drums though, are drums easy to do? Probably gonna watch about 5 tutorials so my monkey brain can comprehend lol. I felt about putting a pic of the Celica too as I'm gonna miss that thing. :) I'll be checking out your threads too and learn useful info

Yes, its the long bar that is attached to the rear beam on the passenger side and the car chassis on the drivers side. It keeps the rear beam in line with the centre of the car body / chassis.

    20200627_135846.jpg

Ah yes okay so I'm sure I've seen it when looking, it sits a bit diagonally doesn't it? Starts at bottom right and goes up left when looking from behind?

  13. 5 hours ago, Claymore said:

Hope the rings work out, don't forget to start a build thread in the EP91 section. We all like reading about cars being modded / repaired.

    Welcome aboard

Cheers, once I've figured out the issue I'll be sure the start a thread on there saying what it was :) I'm thinking on keeping this for a while anyways, feels good to have cheap insurance and petrol costs for once lol.

  14. 7 minutes ago, Claymore said:

Also check the panhard rod is bolted tight and the bushes are in good condition. Problems with this can cause knocking and steering alignment can be affected as the rear beam can move about.

Never heard of a panhard rod lol, is that the long skinny bar?

  15. 23 minutes ago, Calum122 said:

Very simple setup on the back. So there really is very little to go wrong.

The rear arm is a "twisted" beam, if you're luck with a "Pan hard rod". Rear Anti-Rollbars are aftermarket.

The rear arm is fixed in by two big bolts and bushes to the chassis. My starlet with 215000Km on the clocks were in pristine condition. Replaced anyway but there was no signs of wear.

The arm is fixed onto shocks and the top mounts into the towerstruts. If not tightened, the rear arm will drop over bumps. So ensure the bolts are done up.

Things like exhaust can knock on the rear arm or chassis of the car. So it could just be something simple like that.

Then it's just a case of a dodgey rear wheel bearing. These are just taper roller bearings lightly placed into the hubs. So ensuring they're in good order and not over tightened.

Can't think of much else that would cause knocking in the rear. As said they're pretty basic.

Thnka you, when I'm checking tomorrow along with the other stuff I will try see if it's on tight. The exhaust is on the other side so I don't think it could be that. It could be a wheel bearing too as you said, I seem to have badluck with bearings I've had to replace several on my Celica over time lol

  16. 7 hours ago, Claymore said:

I would check that all the alloys are the same size (width and diameter) same offset (ET??), the tyres are the same size and that the tyres are in good condition and evenly worn (not worn on one edge and full tread on the other.) All of these could affect the steering.

You should get spigot rings, the sizes are the outside diameter of the ring and the inside diameter of the ring. You can't buy a spigot ring to make an alloy centre bore bigger 😉.

54.1mm is car hub size (I/D or internal diameter of ring), alloy centre bore (O/D or outside diameter of ring) size will vary by manufacturer so measure or check if your alloys are stamped with the measurement.

Tyres seem fine and same size, I've ordered some 56.1-54.1mm rings should arrive within a few days to 2 weeks, was a bit hard to find that size but got there in the end. I have badly measured it though, When I used my calliper measurer (if that's the right name) I seem to have read 53.1 for the hub and 55.1 for the wheel, do you automatically have to add an extra mm when you measure? It was probably just me badly measuring it but since I was only 1mm off for the hub, i'm assuming I was 1mm off for the wheel and I'll give it a shot hopefully. Thank you. Yeah I wasn't sure in the order to get 54.1-56.1 lol, unless you drill the wheel maybe? I'm new to modifying so I still have PLENTY of things to learn, my celica already came with TSW wheels and rings for them so I never had to figure out.

Well, as you've figured out there is no rear ARB as standard (you can buy aftermarket ones). Check for loose items in the boot, boot well and in both pockets of the boot sides (jack and tools). Then squeeze and lift the strut tower covers to remove and check the fasteners are the correct tightness. The top shock mount could be knackered as could the lower shock bush. Also check lower shock mounting bolt. That's all the obvious stuff I can think of.

Take it from your username your a BMW guy?

Okay thank you I'll give it a shot tomorrow when it's dry. No haha my username is just the football club I support in Belgium RWDM (Racing White Daring Molenbeek) and the matricule number 47 lol just got promoted back to the 2nd tier, I'm more into Mercedes but I'd never own one until I've got plenty of money to throw away lol. Before this I had a 7th gen Celica for a year and a half, a 2010 Kia Magentis that had 240k miles and two 4th gen golfs. :)

  18. Second post after my alignment question, only got the car last week.

I've noticed the rear passenger side tends to knock, I thought it was the stock airbox housing in the boot as the previous owner left it there but after keeping it next to me to check, the noise  still remains in the rear, it happens not just when I'm going over a bump, sometimes won't make the noise over a bump, but driving while accelerating can sometimes hear it. The coil seems fine and shock absorber too, car's only got 70k miles so they shouldn't be worn out, I was lead to believe it could be bushing, I've tried to buy bushing for the Anti roll bar, sway bar whatever term you use but I can only seem to find for the front wherever I look. Are the fronts the same as the rear?! Also it should be fairly easy to replace shouldn't it? I'm not too big a mechanic myself the only stuff I've done so far was change a brake calliper, discs and pads along with a few things like plugs on my Celica...I wasn't able to locate the bushing on the rear tbh but it might of just been my ignorance or my view being blocked with the sun.

Or am I just making a fool of myself in assuming it's got a rear anti roll bar? I have found bushings for the rear on a site but they were discontinued so I've no idea, I really can't find much information online it seems so be nice please 🤣
EDIT: How can I delete this? lmao I've figured out the car doesn't have a rear sway bar

  19. Hi guys, I recently bought some 15 inch replica BBS wheels for my 1998 Starlet but now that they're installed, the steering wheel is slightly off centered towards the left, if I center it, the car pulls to the right. I don't have hub centric rings as I bought these second hand. Would I need to get an alignment done after I get hub centric rings on?

Also, while measuring, would I be correct that the center bore of the hub is 54mm? Do I need to get 54.1-56.1 or 56.1-54.1? Sorry about the questions I've never had to do this until now so still learning

  20. Hi guys, I'm going from Belgium to England to buy a Starlet and bringing it back, eventually driving it back to Scotland once my summer holidays are over next month lol. I own a Celica right now but 3 weeks ago the engine decided to disintegrate itself in true fashion so needing a new daily for work and college once I restart, insurance are loving me right now with all discounts and upgrades lol. (from £185 a month with no upgrades to £44, quite nice for once)

My dad used to have a red one until he sold it when we moved to Bosnia so I remember these cars and always liked them because of that, I'm sure it'll make him happy to see one again as he had three of them I believe. (One got crushed by a Belgian APC so they bought him a new one) How are they with age? As in rust, the Celica was horrible for rust in certain spots such as just above the wheelarch, the sills needed welding and sunroof. (luckily this has no sunroof) I'm also debating making it a turbo, I have no idea about that though. I know on the Celica it is VERY expensive on the 7th gen to turbo and with little outcome unless you go all in like the Fensport one.

How complicated and expensive is it for the starlet and what would the gains be like? My mechanic skills don't go beyond calliper changing, brakes, oil change, plugs and suspension kind of stuff for now. There's a few things I know such as a corolla manifold and other bits and bobs like that, but do you need to open the engine up to upgrade parts or is it just a question of kitting the kit and ecu? This won't be for now if it does happen anyways as I'm probably gonna save up for a weekend car. This one in question only has 71k miles and an excellent mot history but one more thing, I know I'm writing a bible here and asking a lot so just pick and choose what you want to answer to lol.

On the GOV website carcheck, it says it's first registration was in August 1998 but first Registration with DVLA in February 2009? I got a cheap carcheck and found out it had 1 previous number plate change but that was in December 2018, it's given me the number plate that was changed but it's back to the original one when I buy it, I'm just curious if it means it was locked up for a decade or so? When did the DVLA begin? I'm from Belgium and only moved to Scotland in 2016 so I don't know how it works. :)
