"In times of high tides, The Strood is covered with sea water and becomes unpassable for around an hour."
I take it that "hour" is actually a few days?
Surely they've thought that this might happen?
People live on the island and have to travel to work every day, so I very much doubt it'll be fully flooded for 5-odd days.
lol it only floods for an hour at around those times.
why they dont build a bridge i dont know

bit of an update from during the week.
i seem to have deleted a load of pics though which is rather annoying.
any way, i done the valve collets, and rebuilt the.
i needed to check the valve clearances now that i have reground the valves.
red pot is jizer so i could clean each part before it went back in the head, the orange pot is oil. i have never seen oil so clear, i thought i would buy some shell helix fully synthetic and i cant beleive the difference between valvoline and shell.
any way after buggering up the fitment of the head the first time, my fault for being tired and not concentrating on what i was doing.
any way got a new gasket from work and some new head bolts, well lets just say whoever sayd that aftermarket stuff isnt as good as OE i can say is rubbish.
i bought a PAYEN headgasket and bolts and compared them to toyota and i could not tell the difference, the payen gasket even came in the same celephane that the toyota one does, i was highly impressed.
sadly no pics though.
any way got head on and distributor, and the timing belt is now on also.
tomorrow i need to fit the injectors and the inlet mani, then my mate is coming round sunday and we gonna re route the inter cooler piping and refit the turbo, and reweld the mani and make a custom actuator bracket.
i cant wait to feel boost again
well finally getting there with my car,
inlet manifolds on, and all sensors and wiring is in place, just gotta make my custom piping, and actuator bracket, then fit it all together. hopefully have it running tomoorrow.
pics of progress:
also fitted my cusco master cylinder stopper, i've had it for over a year now and i just forgot about it, till today lol.
hopefully it will make a difference.
been a very very hard weekend.
i never thought turning the turbo would be so awkward, but we done it lol.
also a thanks to all those nice comments
at first me and a mate spent 4 hours making an actuator bracket, test fitted it, and realised the guy who i got to rotate the turbo had rotated it to far, our fault for not double checking.
so with that found out we were almost defeated, but fear not my mate had a great idea, i had a second intercooler pipe, so 2 became one, plenty of cutting and rewelding
so with that done, i decided to wrap my maniflod while he was messing around with bits and peices and doing lots and lots of welding.
after the IC pipe had been welded, we needed to test for leakes under high pressure, so heres one we made earlier, proper bloue peter stylee lol
an empty siline cartridge, an air line, and a bucket of water and walla.
eventually they were all welded up. ( this was much harder and took much much longer than i have made out so far, ne and my mate have spent 12 hours solid for 2 days on this and it's still not been started lol)
hours and hours were then spent making a custom actuator bracket
unfortunately i was to busy to take many pics.
then we found that the new actuator bracket interfered with the power steering pump, and we couldnt make the pump fit, so i solution
yep we cut up the power steering pump lol
then we had problems with more pipe work, and its just been one problem after another so i tried bending an air con pipe and got this
all over me the car and my mate, was proper pissed and this was at 8.45 tonight. never mind it's one of them things, so i now need to get one of them, DOH!!
we then had a huge mission of cleaning up, and putting a few things on, we finished at 10 tonight, and have concluded with this
gotta double check a fair few things then fill it up with oil and water, and hopefully all will be well, but i cant help but think something else is gonna go wrong
This is how the bay looked when i started it for the first time, today (26/8)
i seem to have boosting issues now though which is very odd, the actuator dont seem to be boosting to what i have been told it does.
i am waiting to hear back from the trader i bought the actuator from

looks real nice that
-
sounds wicked

happy birthday
-
tis a very nice car, wheels lok great on it
-
thanks simon, the colour is one of them accidental mistakes, it definately says matte black on the tin, but is more battle ship grey lol

decided to fit braided brake lines today, i thought it was about time seeing as i have had them for just over a year now, and the power of the car has upped lol
was a bad idea,
the brake pipe union rounded off, and for love nor money would it budge, so i went out and bought a brake flaring tool, got home and realised that the flaring tool couldnt do steel pipe, which the starlet has, bugger.
so i perservered and got the union undone, yay,
then i went to move it and the the brake line split
but after hours of making the flaring tool work on steel pipe (perseverence is key)
i finally got the fronts fitted (it was the passenger side that was a pain, drivers side was a peice of cake)
the reason the brake lines are now in a different position is because the buddy clubs used to keep undoing themselves on the brake line brackets bolted to the chassis, so the only option was to move them.
also decided to fit my FERODO DS2500 brake pads that i have had for 6 months,
and decided to fit my new discs also
next weekend i shall do the rears, and pray that everything works ok.
oh also added some stickers
thought i would get some proper pics of my rr fraphs and tables.
before it got tuned:
after
the temp the booth was set to etc etc
final graph (again)
starting to strip the car down to replace head gasket.
would have got a lot further if my dad hadn't taken the keys to the shed where me tools are, out with him
fitted new water pump today, whilst its easy to get to.
i dont know if having the extra blade will cause any problems but we soon find out i guess lol, it fitted fine so i assume it will be ok.
also just been generally cleaning things today, in fairness to get best results in cleanliness the engine needs to come out and just lay in a bath of jizer for a few days,
how do engines with no oil leaks get so dirty is beyond me
decided to paint my rocker cover
during painting:
finished painting:
i shall be changing a fair few things while it's all apart, including that intercooler piping ecksjay.

i only bought mine because i see one in autrader when deciding which car i wanted to buy next because my mk2 fiesta was dead from rust.
so i was originally looking at a starlet sr, but saw a gt turbo, and decided thats what i wanted, mainly due to the fact at the time insurance was cheap, and it was still a 1.3, i swore to myself and my dad that i wouldnt mod it.
any way 2 years later and 2 gt's (first got written off by a man in a van) and i now have a 200 bhp gt lol.
i have had a lot of problems but no more than most who modify there cars, and have realised that when people sell direct bolt on kits it wont actually bolt directly on lol, but then thats why i still own one, and bought a second one.
there just so much fun i dont think i will own another like it. or is it because i'm a glutton for punishment lol

i think all you guys have been bang out of order.
ok it's a corsa and its not quite my cup of tea, and i would have gone for smoked lights instead of lexus lights, but it's by far not the worst corsa i have seen.
and it really dont look that bad, it has a back box lower springs and lexus lights, looks quite a tidy motor to me.
it's screaming out for a 2.0 16v

if you're hitting fuel cut, there's a problem elsewhere. cracked wastegate, sloppy actuator etc. just fitting a fcd or fcc will remove fuel cut, yes, but you have to remember that its there for a reason
it'll solve the current problem, however the future problem of several blown pistons will be a fresh new challenge for you ;)
a cracked wastegate will cause less boost, so will a sloppy actuator.
stick to the advice given by jaystar.
you are probably hitting fuel cut if you have a cat back exhaust and air filter, mine used to hit fuel cut with just these mods.
if you have a decat that will also cause fuel cut.
if you get an fcd/fcc, then i would recomend getting the fuelling checked. you will also need to stop the boost from creeping most people do this by porting the wastegate, but that involves taking the turbo off etc etc.
best thing to do is make a restriction, normally putting the standard air box on stops this and is by far the cheapest and easiest way to stop boost creep.
also what boost are you running?
-
that looks a worthy successor
i would love your V, if only i didnt have the gt

there is enough info and people here to help man, if you dont know ask but u do seem to be taking the wrong route, hope whatever u do goes well catch ya later
his problem is he asks, but dont flipping listen.
cal- you have to realise that at somepoint you cant do everything for nothing, we try and help you but for some reason, maybe it's because your young but you dont fecking listen.
nobody wants to see you blow up your engine dude.
-
...takin car off road until 2009 now...sell hybrid and get a different turbo set up, i wont be posting much on here for a while as im stuck on pug306.net, good ridence eh...rubix=cock face
xx
wont be long till your back here.
cal just do things properly you retard.
even if you change turbo setups, you will still have to get engine management, so i not quite sure what your point is
-
as the others have said.
you dont need to fork out loads on top of the range engine management. (although it would be better)
i bought a cheap safc, and s-itc off ebay, cost me £100, got the car tuned and its good enough that it wont blow my engine.
there are much better systems out there by a long shot, but for cheapness it's pretty good, and will stop you detting
-
i know your pain dude, it's a right kick in the c**t
cost me £250 last time to sort the splitter out.
-
thats a right shitter to hear, really feel sorry for him.
the bird who hit him looks fit though.
is lucky it could have been a whole lot worse
-
the jam ones are adjustable, but it's recomended not to adjust it.
maybe yours has broken, it's a possibility.
the jam fcc is a clamp type fcd, so it clamps the voltage at just below fuel cut, if it was working befor it would work now, as it would still be clamping the voltage the same.
also the map sensor can only see +- 1 bar, so anything over this and it wont know it, so it's highly unlikely that it's anything to do with your actuator.
-
awsome, good luck with it dude
-
that is one awsome s2000 though
-
looks really tidy that mate
-
had a play on photoshop, this is the best i could come up with....
your opnions please ;)
that would be sooooo super cool imo
nice lil project you got yourself going there aswell
