I can honestly say in the 8 years ive spent as a mechanic ive never seen anti-freeze doing any damage to an engine. The differance being that oil is a major component in an engine. Whereas anti-freeze is there purely to aid water within our climate. It is the water that does the work not the anti-freeze all that does is raise the boiling point and lower the freezing point of the water. The more likely cause of the damage you have seen to engines is the quality of water used as hard water can cause calcium deposits and others much like a kettle or a washing machine.
-
To be fair guys anti-freeze makes very little differance what brand you use. All it does is prevent the water from freezing in cold weather and raise its boiling point by a few degrees. In theory in a warmer climate water alone is fine. The differance between red and green/Blue stuff is the red stuff is good for 5 years and the blue is good for 2 years although most people tend not to change it that often to be fair. Dont worry about your brand or cost i use car plan ready mixed and its 1.99 per ltr in morrisons just now lol. As long as when you have topped it up you go to a garage and have them check the strength of it and what temp its good to go down to. If you had this work done in a garage they would use the same stuff for nearly every car. Oh and the other rule is dont mix colours as they can gel.

Yeah as far as i know mines is all original parts too and mines is a 96 lol. Its still not right though it feels to me like ball joint or track rod ends but no play at all. Its hard to explain best way i can put it is the wheels feel like there loose and gna fall off lol. I cam from a type-s civic aswell but ive been assured nothing handles like a starlet and i could tell in the summer when i 1st put new wheels on it that the handling is great but theres still that lacking and takes away from your confidence a little. Tbh i just want it sorted lol.

Hi Guys, I've had my v for about 2 years and the whole time ive had it the steering just doesnt feel right imo. It feels loose or vague as if there is play in it. I changed the wheels for a brand new set which made it a whole lot better but its still there it just doesnt feel solid and accurate. I know my shockers are shot and i have a new set waiting to go on but im not 100% sure that will solve it. Its passed MOT's without play in the bottom arms being mentioned and i cudnt feel and play in the wheels when they were off the deck. The top strut mounts look as if they have seen better days but they dont look knackered. The best way to describe it is it feels like the wheels are loose does anybody have any ideas of what it might be? Im a mechanic myself and cannot for the life of me find any play in it and i dont wanto waste the time or money replacing parts for the sake of it. Any good suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers guys was pretty convinced it was the thermostat causing the problem.

Hi ive got a 96 Glanza and since I've bought the car it always seems to run very cool unless I am sitting with the car idling at a stop the coolant temp is very low and during the winter it runs so cool that under heavy throttle it causes the engine management light to come on. Is this why so many people switch to a half size civic rad? Or is it maybe my thermostat is worn out or something? Does anyone else suffer from this? Cheers guys
