Is it possible to fit locking/freewheeling front hubs to an EP85?
I'd really like to be able to switch between rwd and 4wd quickly and easily - rwd for drag racing, 4wd for handling.

Quick update...
Went back to halfrauds yesterday and they weren't interested and refused to exchange or refund. I demanded to speak to the manager but he said I should have tested it first.
Do the ignorant c*nts really expect you to primer, paint and lacquer (they say you need to do this to get the best colour match) with every single can?
Not only is this ridiculous but would waste a decent proportion of the paint (I think you get about 100ml in a spray can and this costs £12.59) not to mention the wasted primer and lacquer too.

Chances are halfords listened to you say super white and not the actual code 040. They are after all, slightly special lol
So very true...
-
Yes mate that's your problem, the super white 2 is a much whiter colour, has less yellow and red in the mix.
Starlets are super white 2
I've done some research and am pretty sure there is no paint called 'Super White' with the code 040. There is a 'Super White 2' with that code though.
Plus it would be absolutely stupid to have 2 completely different paints with the same paint code.

Thanks for the replies. I will have to consider my options:
- Getting machinist to make a 1mm ring
- Use tiger seal or similar to fill gap
- Making my own poly mount
- Find 66mm poly mount with same length
-
Have you tcut the parts near it . I sprayed a rear splitter recently and was very different when next to bumper but after a good tcut it was a good match .
Nope. The glanza is the colour it should be but the bumper is way off.

Do both paints have the same paint code '040'?

I've just measured the mount and it seems to be 66mm without the ring or 62mm with the ring.
I assume I have the stock EP85 mount which is completely different to the EP82 one. I will get a pic up shortly...

I have the Powerflex PFF76-421 which, according to thr powerflex website is for the non-LSD box and 64mm. The same website says the LSD version is 74mm.

Um, to be honest I asked for '040 Super White'... would this be a creamy colour?
-
Why would the engine make any difference? Regardless, it will be a forged 4e once I finish doing the engine bay and drop the engine in lol
-
Cheers for all the info guys I've got quite a bit of learning & practicing to do.
Would you recommend any paint stores online? Or any shops in particular?
Cheers again
-
Are you sure? The mount I have was too large with the ring in place.
And the ring is now completely fucked...

I'm currently painting my car in 040 and to give you an idea it should look like this
So on that comparison I'd say the colour of the bumper is off lol.
You can get a slight brightness differences in colour for a few reasons but it's basically due to uneven or poor coverage. Seeing as the colour is way off I'd say it's not down to that... What lacquer did you use and how does it feel? Was the colour any brighter before you put the lacquer on?
Chances are they mixed the paint wrong and you should take it back for a refund or the right colour lol.
Cheers for the reply. I just used the normal paint lacquer from Halfords which feels normal to me and didn't change the colour.
I would probably have noticed earlier but I was spraying in my garage which doesn't have the best lighting lol.
I think you're right that they've mixed the paint wrong and will try taking it back for the right colour but I think I'm going to have an argument on my hands since I think they should also replace the wasted primer and lacquer, although I guess that I should probably have test sprayed something first to check the colour match
On a related subject, I notice that you are doing it the proper way with a compressor and air-gun. I have both of these but no idea what paint to buy, what ratio of paint to thinners to use or much else really lol... Could you possibly point me in the right direction by telling me what I need to buy to spray a bumper (for example) including primer and lacquer? Many thanks!
-
Where would you recommend getting paint mixed?
-
Hi,
I got some paint made up in halfords which was supposed to be "040 Super White" for my rear bumper but it doesn't seem to match the existing paintwork
I sprayed it using white primer, 040 Super White and lacquer... have I done something wrong or have Halfords mixed the paint up wrong?
Sorry about the picture quality - the whole car is so white it burns your retinas off when the sun hits it, but the bumper has come out a creamy colour
Cheers

Hi,
I've removed the stock rubber out of the rear engine mount on my EP85 (with a knife, hacksaw, chisel and a big hammer lol) to replace it with a polyurethane one but the poly mount I have for the EP82 is slightly too small to fit...
Can anybody tell me what poly mount will fit, or am I better off just fabricating one myself like this: http://www.mgmetrocup.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=265.0 ?
Cheers

I will definitely have these. What price would you do cash on collection, or would you take bank transfer? Thanks
-
Can I take the bumper & fog-lights? Also, have you got the grille? Cheers

First ones are enkei circlaz had a set myself
Thanks mate!!! Spot on!
I can just about read the logo on the centre caps now that I know what they say lol!
Now, only the weird Heroes Racing split rims left to identify :S
-
I've now taken a look inside most of the wheels and got some more info.
The "Super Aspire R" Split Rims say "Heroes Racing" and "Japan" on the inside. The 1st set (the ones with the unreadable logo) also say they're from Japan.
Looks like all of them (except for the Team Dynamics ones obviously) are JDM
Team dynamics are monza I used to have a set
And the last ones look like watanabe I think???Last ones look like Watanabe rs8
Last ones also could be black racings?
I originally looked here: http://www.ukstarletowners.com/topic/15369-the-ultimate-guide-to-jdm-wheels/ which seems to show the Watanabe RS8 without the split-rim bolts, but since both of you said Watanabe, I had a bit more of a look into them... it seems that some of them are split-rims and some aren't. Pretty sure now that these are genuine. Blacks Racing ones have a different stamp (saying BR) instead of the Watanabe logo.
Interesting fact: these wheels (Watanabe RS8) are the ones used on Takumi's 86 in Initial D
Thanks guys! Only 2 more sets to go lol ;)

Thanks for the info.
Are the half shafts much weaker than the front driveshafts?
I had heard that rwd was better for drag due to losing less power through the drivetrain, less chance of destroying the clutch and when you launch, the weight transfers towards the back pushing the rear tyres into the tarmac.
