Retarding will loose power and increasing will make more power but the chances of melting a piston or cracking a ring land is much higher.

Don't hold me to that though it's just what I've gathered from reading

It will alter the powerband slightly.


Rule of thumb: retard = more bottom end torque , advance = more top end torque.



Advance and retard it 2 degrees, see what you think.

Yeah ive got a picture of the Toyota Service Information and it shows that you can retard or advance by maximum 2 degrees either way but 10 degrees is bang on.



It shows you need to short-circuit the T and E1 connectors at idle to play with the timing.

use a knock device if your going to advance on a turbo

You don't really need to worry about a couple of degrees, only worry about that when you're near the limit of detonation.
