Frequent oil changes with a lesser brand is still better than using more expensive oil for longer i think. Most oils meet the required spec anyway and alot better than the oil when these came out

if you use magnatec you need to stick to that oil and not change brands after. as it causes problems when mixed with other brands, I was told this a good few years ago. I think it affects viscosity

Would it make a difference if you used some engine flush to clean it out or would it still affect it?

if you flush the engine just make sure you remove the sump after the flush and clean the oil pickup as flushing causes the oil pick up to get blocked up which will lead to oil starvation and total engine failure
