Avinash Trance
Some is telling me about Motul just bought the car and servicinf is coming it is running on Castrol Edge 10w60
H_D
10 60 is too thick - personally I would use 10-40 for a stock motor in the summer
Iwan-g-g
Like H_D says 10 60 is too thick. My engine is standard and I run 10w40. I think it's good for our climate here.
Ollieh17
id go for a 5-50. maybe a 10 as it warms up slightly
Avinash Trance
Yes 10w40 so. Which Brand you propose me?
Iwan-g-g
Castrol magnatec
Avinash Trance
Thanx buddy. What about Motul X-Max 8100 10w40
Iwan-g-g
I don't know if I'm being dumb but I never heard of that brand. I'd stick to the brand I know, I've always used castrol and I'm quite happy with it.
Ollieh17
Frequent oil changes with a lesser brand is still better than using more expensive oil for longer i think. Most oils meet the required spec anyway and alot better than the oil when these came out
Avinash Trance
So Castrol Magnatec or Edge?
H_D
if you use magnatec you need to stick to that oil and not change brands after. as it causes problems when mixed with other brands, I was told this a good few years ago. I think it affects viscosity
Iwan-g-g
Would it make a difference if you used some engine flush to clean it out or would it still affect it?
H_D
Would it make a difference if you used some engine flush to clean it out or would it still affect it? if you flush the engine just make sure you remove the sump after the flush and clean the oil pickup as flushing causes the oil pick up to get blocked up which will lead to oil starvation and total engine failure
