Yeah thats bascially mate. A box with wire mesh inside it. Its just the bit that gets rid of the harmful gases.

A cat or "catalytic converter" lowers the emissions passed out through a cars exhaust bud.

Unless your thinking of the flexi pipe which kind of looks like mesh. the cat converter on gts/glanzas are on the exhaust downpipe.

The cat has a cast metal casing and is connected to the turbo down the front side of the engine.The exhaust attaches to the cat.Sounds like you have described the flexi pipe.
