What happened to this piston?

Hello, 

This is one of the pistons pulled out of a forged engine of mine built by race tech... Just wondering what happened to it? If anyone has an insight into how it got into this state it'd be great to hear!

What dose the top of the piston look like

Top is nice and clean actually

Possibly detonation has caused that. anything been changed and not had the mapped checked to suit changes ? Who mapped it ?

The car was mapped by a guy that I have had trouble with before, he said he was struggling getting the timing right when he gave it back to me but said it was okay.

 

Since then I have learnt more and can do it myself and found out he's not as good as he says, I took my glanza there before it had the forged engine as the head gasket blew, he sorted it but two days later it blew again! Opened up the engine and it turned out that he put the all ready used oem headbolts back in with an Athena gasket. Definitely won't go to him again, will do things myself now.

Would say that damage is down to mapping then bud get it sorted and taken to someone who if comfortable with starlets.

Did you by any chance have your cam cover powder coated ?

Why would that be a problem? You think it was shot blasted and sand was still left in there?

If the baffle plate wasn't taken off yeah could have been sand that done that yeah.

Blimey, I had done about 2000 miles and just one afternoon it started to develop a tappy sound then about 100 miles later it was alot louder. That's when i parked it up.
