Boxster cup car

Thought I’d share the latest project at work that’s been going on since February time. My workplace is an approved Porsche repair shop that repair/restore/build road and race cars (mainly Porsche but other stuff too). So Porsche GB approached us about building a 986 boxster s to compete in this years boxster cup ! As we’ve already help build 3 of them already for the local Porsche dealerships I got straight to it.

First up was to strip the car to almost a shell, car was painted in liquid silver. The engine rebuild was outsourced to Porsche race specialist unique Porsche. Then in went the cage from custom cages 😀

Hard top still needs painting just mocking up for fitment 😀

Suspension and brakes have had a complete component/ nut and bolt replacement with all new parts 👌🏻. Brakes are standard brembo 4 pots all round with factory 3.2 s disks And pagid rs enduro pads all round with goodridge braided flexors. Suspension mods are JRZ adjustable dampers with eibach main and helper springs, gt3 adjustable from coffin arms, adjustable gt3 front roll bar with adjustable drop links, 5mm spacers with lengthened wheel bolts

the rear will sit lower as there’s no engine and gearbox in it at the moment

Freshly rebuilt 3.2 s 😝 brand new factory built short motor with skimmed rebuilt heads

Sports option valvetronic exhaust acquired and fitted with actuator flaps welded open 😀

Engine and box fitted 💪🏻, interior and cage painted in satin black technogrip. Also managed to start reassembling the exterior

Interior is nearly done, sparco Rev 3 seat, 6 point omp harness, sparco steering wheel with bg quick release, gt3 cup car short shifter, omp plumbed extinguisher system

Thanks mate, it’s sometimes a pain in the arse but getting to do projects like this make it all worth while 😀 best bit is I get to race it in the championship too !

95% done now just got the wiring on the electrical cut off to finish and the rain light to fit then it’s off to shake it down and test it 😀🏁🚗

Ride height corner weight and alignment also all done 1350 kilos with driver as per regulations

Do those Suspension mods fit/work on a 987 Boxter s?

Think they may have to be 997 gt3 coffin arms and roll bar tbh to fit 987, I can find out though if your seriously thinking about it

Yes please if You could let Me know, PM by all means. It’s a 2006 3.2 Boxter S. We are looking at Track days etc. Bought the car as a birthday present for my partner earlier this year and the car has just blown me away.

Took the boxster for its first shake down on the local industrial estate today with trade plates on, happy to report all good 👌🏻

After a failed test at Blyton park due to the clutch slave cylinder giving up it was straight in to its and my first ever race meeting at Oulton park

Car ran faultless all weekend with me qualifying 3rd in class, finishing p5 in race one and sadly a dnf in race to due to me spinning and ending up beached in the gravel whilst chasing down 3rd with 2 laps left 😩 but hey ho not bad for a first timer 🤷‍♂️

24 cars in total split in to 3 classes, 986/987 boxster s and cayman s, 997 and a 944

It was a wet one last time out at oulton p4 in race 1 and race 2, conditions were awful in fairness worst I’ve ever driven in 😱

I’ve been lucky enough to get the opportunity to build this car and race it four times which was an unbelievable if at times scary experience which I loved ever minute of. I was also fortunate enough to receive some driver tuition from Tom Bradshaw who is a former Porsche carrera cup gb scholar and class 1 championship winner. He’s rapid and scared the hell out of me but also showed me the car was well built and solid enough to take the beating he gave it 😂. However sadly the car was built to sell and never to keep but just for us to enjoy it before we sold it. I’m glad to say the 986 has gone to a new home and will be back on the grid and competing in the club championship in 2021. It’s fair to say my appetite for racing has been wetted so can’t wait for the next chapter competing in the tss with the starlet sr turbo. Thanks for reading!
