ste91
I'll be getting a Corolla manifold of course, but I've been thinking about exhaust/intake.For the price they cost they just don't seem worth it Correct me if I'm wrong but a full exhaust system is a few hundred quid and would be pointless to me because I don't want the noise (which is why alot of people buy them, unless they're poor and can only afford a backbox) and the power gain would be small for what it would cost. (And then there's the stupid issues like bigger pipe = lose power and all that sort of rubbish). And as for an induction kit I've heard the standard airbox is good enough and even some Jap tuning companies keep the standard one?Of course there's the sound of an induction kit but unless I get one cheap I'm not paying £100+ for one.And on top of that it puts the insurance up.This post seems pretty pointless and just looks like me doing alot of talking but I just want to make sure I'm not wrong on anything and missing something out. So:Standard airbox maybe with aftermarket panel filter (I assume this is better than the standard one although wouldn't it be better to use standard ones and just change them more often?)Heatwrap exhaust mani? Would there be any gains for this? Since heatwrap is usually cheap on fleebay or something

Is that just to make it fit the correct pipe size or something?
RobSR
once again someone going on the 'big bore exhaust' loss of power rubbish...and the statement of "unless their poor and can only afford a backbox", the trust on on my car is worth as much as a full system. ste91
I suppose I'd better answer that so I don't sound like an asshole  once again someone going on the 'big bore exhaust' loss of power rubbish...I said:(And then there's the stupid issues like bigger pipe = lose power and all that sort of rubbish).because there's always someone talking about backpressure and all that sort of thing, wether it's true or not I don't know which is why I said "stupid issues" and "that sort of rubbish". and the statement of "unless their poor and can only afford a backbox", the trust on on my car is worth as much as a full system.I'm talking about the idiots who buy backboxes from halfords because they want it for the noise. ste91
a free-er flowing exhaust will help as long as the diameter isn't too big, i'm not all that up on the NA;s anymore but i'd say a max diameter of 2" with straight thru silencers would deffo give a power increase, a decat pipe would too.when mine was na, the standard airbox was deffo the better choice. but i liked the induction noise the pipercross filter gave. Would fitting free-flowing silencers to the standard exhaust be possible, if so, would it do any good?Or would it just be pointless aswell as sounding shit?
thunderpants
Would fitting free-flowing silencers to the standard exhaust be possible, if so, would it do any good?Or would it just be pointless aswell as sounding shit?surely an exhaust slightly bigger than oem with mandrel bent pipes....so no loss in diameter with free flowing exhaust. although me and my friend both had sr starlets. when he took the cat out with a decat pipe his seemed to struggle. round about way of saying is the back pressure from the na cat not good for the na? but if your looking for a bhp increase look at the glanza s ecu intake etc as it was 100bhp instead of 85bhp of a uk spec starlet could be less hassle for bigger gain
