heya dude, welcome to the forum, you won't need to do much if its an import providing you haven't imported it youself, with 19 2 years ncb you should be able to a resonable insurance quote. you should be able to pick a nice one up for 3500!

Surely every glanza was imported at 1 point?

What does the import thing mean to the car, and the insurance of the car?

also, what do i do with an import? will it have plates? will i have to register it?

i dont get the import part?

also, anyone else o here 19 and insured on a glanza?

if you get a place to import one for you then they sort all that out, its basically just like buying a second hand car then. Or just buy one thats already over here then its exactly like just buying a used car.

You might struggle with insurance to be honest, glanza's for some reason are a bastard to insure. There are a few threads about it if you do a quick search you might find a couple of companies who list them

generally when you buy from an importer they will handle all that faff. so you should basically need insurance tax and your ready to go

Because my insurance company, when i quoted a glanza reg, they said it was a Starlet SR.

wouold it be wrong to go ahead and get that insurance with them saying my glanza was an SR?

most insurance companies dont list a glanza, just say its a 97/97/98 starlet gt.

thats what i did, then just got them to change it to glanza on the cover note.

sowhat do i say when i ask them to change it on the cover note?

YES! wrong, illegal and essentially not insured. your car has a TURBO Something an SR doesnt have and as such you would need to add a tubby to modifications at least i would say. not sure on that part but don't even think bout insuring it as an SR

Firsty Welcome to the board <_<

All Glanza's currently on UK road have been imported at some time. They were only availible in the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM). When a car comes over it has to go through an SVA (eSVA if 10 Years old or younger) and an MOT. Once a car has passed this it then must be registered with the DVLA. When registered it will be given a Registration Number (Plate). Only then can it be "technically" legal to drive although I do know that it is possible to insure a car based on Chassis number alone.

If you buy a car from a private seller or import car dealer it will no doubt be registered and road legal thus meaning you don't/won't need to do anything to use it.

I got my Glanza when I was 19 and I had 0 NCB and i insured it for < £1000 Fully Comp. Shop around through specialist insurance companies (A-Plan, Adrian Flux etc) as most "traditional" insurers (Admiral, Elephant, Tesco etc) won't have a clue what the car is. Be aware that insuring the car as a "1996/97/98/99 Starlet GT" or a "Starlet SR" is FRAUD as the vehicle is NOT a Starlet GT/SR. This will make your insurance void if you have an accident. I know you don't have to claim if you have an accident but what happens if a kid runs out, you hit him and he sue's you. Your insurance company could say "We're not paying due to false decleration at the beginning of the policy". A performance insurance company will either know what the car is or list a "Starlet GT" if they only list the GT explain a Glanza is effectivly the EXACT same car, it has just been facelifted and is safer.

Your budget is kinda low, although I've not looked at Glanza prices for years. They are coming down in price and becoming more availible You will find a reasonable car for your £3500 but if you pay anything less than around £3000 you'll be buying a rough/possibly accident damaged/fucked engined car.

Hope this helps.

who insured u at 19 with 0ncb for £1000 fully comp?

What if they change it to a GLanza on the Covernote and Certifiticate?

Well you still have a few problems i can see

1. the turbo is probably the most premium enhancing mod in existence

2. a glanza is an import an SR is not.

yes getting the covernote changed will mean it reads correct. but it would be illegal to drive it without letting the insurance company know it had a turbo. if the police clocked it they could give you 6 points there and then for driving without valid insurance. its best to get it done properly.

Adrian flux are good i hear. or sky insurance, quinn. give em a try.
