All depends on the setup if you go for a different filter.

A good panel filter in the standard airbox will be good but you always have the restrictions that a standard intake provides.

As for having only £30 to spend:

They're decent from what I've heard, I'm going to be getting one soonish.

Oh and with panel filters you just fuck them off and buy new ones, with "induction kits" (fuck knows why they get called that, half the time it's just a filter by itself not a kit at all) you can clean & re-use them.

then i have to deal with pipe work etc.....i done really have time to piss around with it that filter is effin cheap tho.

on another note FUEL ECONOMY she gets really thirsty on the motorway by that i mean there is a very noticable drop on the gauge after i have come off the motoryway.....i do drive like an animal on occasions racing puntos,corsas,micras......anything small BUT i have started to calm down before something goes wrong even at 65-70mph there is a noticable drop on a trip of about 35miles........so i dont want to make it worse.....

Hmm that doesn't sound right, when I first bought my Starlet I put £35 quid in it, drove it back from Manchester to Kidderminster, and then the rest of the tank lasted nearly two weeks!

More the two weeks to a tank thing didn't last very long though seeing as me and my dad both have a heavy right foot...

To be honest there really isn't any fucking around with a bit of pipe, it's just a matter of getting the right setup.

BUT when i drive back its cold around 7.30-8.30 ish so i guess cold air = more fuel burning....also my exhaust is blowing (would it make a diff?).......i better come clean i change my gears at 2000rpm except from 4-5th were i stay at 3000rpm then change, i occasionally blaze down in the fast lane at 80-90 and up the hill`s i hit the hill at 70.........speed drops to about 60ish halfway up i fully put my foot fully down to get her up to 70 ish again. weird driving style.......on a full to the rim tank i got about approx 285

You wot????? You are talkin complete tosh there son.

A K&N filter has a million mile warrenty! At £30 a pop i wouldn't be chucking it in the bin!!!!

The correct method is to clean it with soapy water, dry it properly then oil it with the correct oils from K&N :D

Standard panel filters should be binned.

A panel filter will give the best gains as it's enclosed away from engine heat.

A blowing exhaust won't help fuel economy either.

I did read it hence my post

Standard filters should be changed at service as they are paper.

He was talking about a K&N filter in his first post, then if you read your post you say to bin the filter at every service. Expensive :D
