Anyone Good With Tropical Fish

Recommended Posts

My brother gave me his tropical fish last night, only a few left in it, as he wasnt able to look after them properly last few weeks.

Anyway, the tank is bogging, ive emptied out 2/3 of the water, but its still bogging, got the filter running and the heater. I know i cant just put in tap water, so how do i go about getting clean water for them in their tank?

Any tips on keeping them aswell and keeping the water crystal clear etc, how to control ph levels etc etc.

you have to put them in some temp water.. then empty there full real tank and wash it out.. you then need to fill it back up run the pump and so on.. but i think you need to buy stuff that you put in the water mate im sure ull get it at a pet shop!! they can normaly help

^^^^ don't empty the full tank leave a little in the bottom otherwise the fish will not be able to adapt to the different pH levels in the tank and die. empty 2 thirds of the tank refill and let it run for a little bit so the water can settle then don't just plonk the fish right in as again the shock might be to much! lift them out of were you are containing them in a sandwich type bag with the original water in- put in to the top of the tank and leave them for 5minutes while they get used to the temps etc then let them in.

ask a fish place about it and they will give you the right chemicals to put into the tank to help.

also make sure old dead plants are not sitting in the tank.

hope this helps.

cool.

So i should empty the fish into another tank, with some original water.

Clean out the tank etc etc, fill it up, put the fish back in, but keep em in bags till they can adjust.

yeah but leave a little in the original tank as well.

problem is, that water is rank rotten (water in the current tank), dont think they will still be alive when i get home to be honest its that bad.

in that case you dont have any other choice but clean the whole tank but you have to let it run for a while to make sure everything can settle. like a couple of days

pm if you need anymore help :(

thanks guys.

Yeh had to clean the whole thing out, although, kept the filter uncleaned as i was told to do by a pet shop. Added conditioner (not hair stuff) to the water from the tap.

The fish are ok now, one seemed to be dieing in the older water before i cleaned it out, but now its zooming about all over the place.

Happy days.

not read the entinre thread so sorry if its already been answered

tap water is fine in small doses

i keep red bellied paranhas and do fortnightly water changes, take about 20% out and put same amount back in slowly a litre at a time. make sure the water not cold but dont have it hot or warm just warm enough to tyake the edge off of it

do this every 10-14 days and your fish should be happy

my piranhas get really misserable if i forget and stop eating etc but when i keep them clean there aggresive little buggers :p:P
