Starlet_Tim
right guys this one has even confuzled me even working for toyota.....my car as you know i have just built back upevery now and then it will overheat on idle and coolant will come out the expansion bottle.....since i have changed the coolant temp sensor on the thermo housing with a new one and still it overheated...its got a new thermostat in from when i rebuilt it so that shouldnt be a problem as its a geniuine one....the car dosent have a/c and im pritty sure the fan kicks in.....when its over heated the top coolent pipe is hard and the blowers are abit colder.....it overheated yesterday at the hotel well started too but i turned it off before it could go anywhere.....bled it a few times after but still on idle it does it every now and then....some days i can be runnin it on idle for 15 mins to check of any problems and nothing the fan kicks in when its suppose too and its fine....its done it 4 times now and its really annoyin me....i sometimes get an engine light on at bout 65mph in 5th gear on motor way.....i bridged te1 and e1 and i get error codes 21, 41, 42...... 42 is something to do with coolant temp being over 80 degrees at 2000-5000rpm but i really cant think of anything im thinkin because my radiators abit buggerd it could be such as simple as that but i just wanna get other peoples opinions on this aswell.....sooooo what you thinking guys?tim

Dean @RW-Developments
posibly the head gasket? this happened to me last week! but youve only just rebuilt it so??
Starlet_Tim
i dont know what the fault codes me im away atm so when i get back al ask my master tech see what he says but im bringing the fan switch relay into college tmoz to check over and when i get back am going to check if there is continuaty in the sensor and go from there.....im not losing any water its just every now and then it overheats.....dont think its headgasket like you said I've only just rebuilt it plus if it was that it would over heat all time and i would lose water....its just really wierd how it only does it some times......going to bleed it again this weekend see how it goes... scot-ish
sounds like the thermostat is stickin,if the rad is proper fucked, then that could be it, does the temp come back down when the fan kicks in ??
Starlet_Tim
new thermostat in it from work but yeah still could be stickin it is an option.......im not sure because when its happened once i dint notice and there was just coolant on the floor but it had been turned off so wen ignition came on it was normal temp another time it happened it was just below red and i just turned it off straight away then turned ignition on for the fan to kick in which it has done......then the most recent time it happened was here at college and it was on its way to overheatin aka it was above its normal operating temp and i did same for that turned it off then onto ignition.... RobSR
Could be warped head/HG problems...and it doesn't always necessarily overheat all the time if it's this.
ToyotaTech15
Did you put the jiggle valve on the thermostat facing up?Could be an airlock there if it's not right,Gary
Starlet_Tim
yes i did the thermo housing want actually go on if the jiggle valve isnt at the top..... battery flat at college lol bump start is in order at 1 wen i go home haha
Starlet_Tim
head shouldnt be warped as i got it skimmed before it was replaced to should be all ok
Steve GT
it could be something very simplewhen you put the coolant in did you properly bleed the system? if not it could be a simple air lock and thats why its overheating
