Nads
Hello, I'm going to buy a inter cooler next week and would like to know what it actually does? Increase BHP?Less turbo lag ???Cheers guys
Dan Evans
cools the turbo mate, helps performance
micky boy
Its just good incase you wont to run more power in the future it also will be better than the oem tmic as it just gets heatsoak with it been at the top of the engine as heat rises and thats not good the fmic will keep the inlet temp down and sould give you a bit more bhp gain.. not sure on how much of an gain though
ste91
When a turbo compresses air it also heats it up. The most basic thing that most people know is colder air is denser and contains more oxygen which allows you to burn more air/fuel mixture and in turn create more power. So the air goes into the turbo, gets compressed, which heats it up, then passes through the intercooler and cools back down. The reason for upgrading the standard intercooler is that once you go past standard boost levels it becomes inefficient. Another reason is that top mounted intercoolers suffer from heatsoak as they are directly above the hot engine.A large core/long piping route may increase turbo lag a bit but generally the increase in power compensates for this. Most of the time you don't need to bother upgrading the intercooler until you've done the basic breathing mods (exhaust/decat/mani/air filter) and then turn the boost up a bit. ToyotaTech15
As the intake air is compressed by the turbo, its temperature will increase, using an intercooler will cool the intake air and make it more dense therefore ensuring higher power outputPower gains will depend on other modifications on the engine and which cooler you go for as they all have different pipe routes and core sizes.Unless using a large turbo, lag isnt really a problem on a ct-9 to be honestDamn need to type faster lolGary
Blitz
lets be fair though guys you' d only really get partial heat soak round towm, cause when you think of the amount of air going in through the bonnet scoop say once you go above 45 mph there will be hardly any heat soak at all
