ste91
I recently bought a Honda CRX but I'm having a hell of a job to find cheap insurance for it, the cheapest I've found is like £2800.It's my birthday in June and I did a quote what it would be for then and it's around £1500-1800, so atleast £1000 cheaper. So I'm considering buying another N/A Starlet to use for 6 months. But it's going to cost £1000+ to insure the Starlet and then roughly £40 a month to store the CRX if I can find somewhere local as I don't have a drive or garage. So I'm stuck on what to do, pay an arm and a leg to insure the CRX now, or wait 6 months (already been 4 months without a car) and then insure the CRX in June. shaneyb
Pay monthly insurance until then?
riko666
Why did you buy a car before you had an insurance quote? You have to do research before making a rash judgement...
Idrees
I'll delete japcarmaniacs post, don't wanna see stuff like that on our forum. No offence to anybody.
Jae-Glanza
To be fair, Quotes change all the time. I for one have done plenty of quotes online ''Ahhh i can insure a vts'' Went out and bought one.. and the same insurance company who told me they would insure me have even backed out or raised it through the roof. This is regarding both online and via the phone too! They are fuckers.
ste91
Why did you buy a car before you had an insurance quote? You have to do research before making a rash judgement...Oh I should have mentioned this in the first post.I had atleast 10 quotes for around £1000 - £1100 on some comparison sites which is reasonable. So I thought oh yeah that's sorted I can afford that, but then when it comes to actually buying the insurance they turn round and say no we can't do it. (And that's atleast 5-10 companies not just one).I haven't bought a car without looking into it first, and since buying it I've been non stop looking for cheaper quotes but it's no good. @ japcarmaniac - the reason I had to buy a new car was because my old Starlet was wrote off (I wasn't at fault) and after going through a claims process I really do not want to risk anything with insurance companies. Doing what you suggested is as bad as having no insurance at all.

riko666
Wow seriously? They can't do that, as the price is a binding contract - have you tried with Sky Insurance, Adrian Flux, Admiral? They specialise in younger drivers/imports/modified cars
japcarmaniac
most prices on compare sites are one off payments. when you contact the company to purchase it they tell you that and then it goes up considerably when changing to monthly installments.might i add that theres nothing wrong with being a named driver especialy only for 6 months if your worried about NCB. admiral were the cheapest i could find on imports. cheaper than AFlux

Jae-Glanza
I think it was the lie about being garaged and 5 yrs ncb people frowned apon mate, not the named driver. =]

They specialise in younger drivers/imports/modified carsYeah tried those, but due to my age (18) many specialist companies are still expensive whereas if I'm 19 it's alot cheaper. And with it only being 6 months away I'm considering waiting. As it's going to be £1000 cheaper and it's winter now anyway so I could keep the CRX away from the rain/snow/grit.As for being a named driver it's a load of rubbish, I've always been on my own policy, being a named driver is pointless now anyway as insurance companies have cottoned onto it and the prices are the same wether you're the main driver or not. How much power isit producing?£1150 with 12 months mot, 6 months tax, needs some jobs doing but mechanically it's great. The B16A1 is about 150bhp standard, but this has got a few mods. japcarmaniac
well to be honest if young drivers didnt buy crx's and jap imports everybodys premium would be lower. hope you get somthing sorted mate! next time you get a quote get a reference number to go with it. they cant change the price by any huge margin as long as all details were correct. Dan Evans
I've got a garage you could rent for six months??get yourself a shitty car for six months, then save your money for the CRX.
japcarmaniac
quote from the link - During the online application process some, some firms - including esure, Churchill and the Post Office - allow a car owned by a young person to be insured by a parent who then puts their child down as an occasional driver.if thats there policy then how can they turn round and decline a payout? they cant! SpeedFreak
I had a problem a few months ago, where I was quoted 1 thing online and when I phoned up to check it they changed their mind and told me they couldn't insure me at all. I was seriously pissed, and looked into it. And was told that by-law, if you are quoted a price online and all the information you have given is 100% truthful then they have to adhere to the quoted price.Although, I might add, if you have a quote online they do state in their T's and C's that this is an ONLINE quote only. Which means you have to pay for it online. You cannot phone up for the same quote. The amounts you have been quoted since seem alot to me! Even for an 18 year old. But as said already, because they are known as a 'young boy racer car' to alot of insurers, they put their insurance up! Rip off I know!Good luck with what you decide though mate!
