Possible Headgasket..

Recommended Posts

hello, over the last couple of weeks my ep82 has been getting hot and slowly losing water. then one evening i put my foot down and before it reached full boost it stuttered and popped, i pulled over and there was a huge amount of pressure coming through the rocker cover and into the oil catch tank, and pushing the oil out everywhere.. i refilled with oil and emptied the catch tank then drove it easy but last night i checked again and the oil being pushed out of the catch tank is creamy and mixed with water.. and the car is losing oil.. thinking head gasket but not 100 per cent sure.. any ideas??

Generally if you get a creamy substance in the rocker cover or coolant bottle then id say 90% that the headgasket has gone as the oil and water has mixed, maybe its on the turbo if it has a water port. but i havent got a turbo so i wouldnt know.

compression test it matey then that will confirm your suspisions

alright mate hows it going? I met you last night at lakeside.

what you wanna do is a compression test, depending on the results of that, if some cylinders are lower than others or if there all low, you should do a wet compression test, (put a bit of oil down the low cylinders) & if it raises compression then you have most probably got a cracked piston ringland (the bit in between the piston rings).

if your pushing oil out the breathers im pretty sure your gonna have a cracked ringland mate.

slight creamy substance in the filler cap dont mean head gasket its only if its on the dipstick. when its in the filler cap its called mulsification of sumin its just were condinsation builds up inside the engine from the heat and mixes with the oil, more common when you do short drives.

Also from what i remember oil coming out the breather is a sign of a piston ring.

Hope this helps.
