rmsnoel
Warm your car up until it idles normally around 750rpm then join pins tei and ei on the dianostics port under ther bonnet with a paper clip. Your idle should rise for a few seconds then settle again. The sucking noise is your cold start idle valve opening then closing. If you heard it, its working, if not you'll have to unscrew it from bottom of throttlebody and clean it out with some WD40 and a matchstick. Now with the pins crossed with a paperclip your timing is no locked, stops ecu from adjusting it. Attach timing light to Cylinder 1 plug lead and to battery terminals. Point strob light at crankpulley and you'll see timing marks should be holding at a steady 10degrees before top dead centre. If timing mark on crank pulley is floating back and fourth around 12 to 20 degrees then you havnt cross the dianostics pins right or have down the wrong pins. Theres a few guides with photos and figures on tgtt.comTiming test is the same for 4efe 5efe 4efte 5efhe.
