Carl.
right.. fitted uprated manifold, gutted cat and fitted hks actuator a week agonow it sounds like the manifold is blowing from somewhere. stripped it back down and put loctite copper gasket sealant on but it still sounds exactly the same. sounds like a tractor, as if it is missfiring.. but its notany ideas?any tips for finding where its blowing?also after setting boost with actuator it seems to take forever to reach it peak. put foot down and i just get lag lag lagggg lag boost well above 4000 rpm before it starts to rise as if its opening wastegate way too early. WallaceGlanza
What kind of mani is it? The flange face onto the head could be warped.

Ryan Milne
yeh but they were cheap ones off ebayHad the exact same faults as you did pal, took my car along to see gary and it was the cheap manifold gasket that had blown, replaced it with a genuine Toyota one and problem solved. ForresGlanza
Don't know anything bout your manifold problem but i had the same problem you did with the actuator, my manifold is blowing aswell. So can you let me know if fixing your manifold fixes the actuator problem?Sorry for hijacking your thread bud.
WallaceGlanza
If the exhaust gases are leaking significantly before the turbo then obviously the spool of the turbo will be effected.

So can you let me know if fixing your manifold fixes the actuator problem?Sorry for hijacking your thread bud.i dont think its related tbh mate. ive heard they take a little longer to hit peak boost anyway because they have a stronger sprng or something but thing thats annoying me the most is that if i set it one turn inwards to raise boost to just above boost cut it seems to spool up fine. but just one turn outwards to bring it down to 0.8 bar it takes foreverrrrrr. ive also noticed my bov isnt as loud so maybe ive got a boost leak. havent really checked because at moment i want my manifold to stop blowing. I've set mine so it spools fine just don't rev it high in 3rd or 4th. You'll never be able to get it right with just the actuator because if you have exhaust and relocated filter you are always guna get boost creep. Suggestion would be some kind of management. Matt Glanza
when you take the mani off again mate put it on a known flat surface like a window or sumin and that will tell you if the face is warped or not.id say it is.if so you will have to take it to a machine specialist and have it skimmed

holdway ep82
I had that problem on my old glanza, bought a new exhaust mani gasket and when i went to fit it i found a hairline crack on the head around the mani stud . if you strip it out again be sure to look really hard for cracks on the head.. fingers crossed not tho! Carl.
quick update on this thread. had chance to take mani back off this weekend just gone, found no cracks what so ever in head, and there was no black exhaust gas marks except for pretty much perfect circles around each port.. so no signs of leakage also the cheap ass gasket was in lovely condition. mani to turbo gasket was blown thoughhad a good look at mani for cracks etc and initially found non then just as i was going t put it down a flash of light through the tinyest crack ever caught my eye. id orginally spotted this tiny crack when i first gt the mani but from what i could see looked like a surface crack from when it was welded.anyway took it down road to have it re-welded up.... the bloke couldnt weld to save his life and made a right dogs bollox of it but i didnt care, fed up of my car sounding like a tractor.i then checked flange to see if it was warped with a straight edge from work. it was very slightly warped so i drove round in girlfriends car for ages saturday looking for a machine shop that could skim it up.. no such luck which was fustrating as i could have done it myself at work if it wasnt the weekend. decided to refit it anyway because of it looking as if it wasnt leaking from the head anyway (no black marks where they shouldnt be etc - as above).managed to overtighten one of the oil feed nuts (bastard!!) then it wouldnt tighten or loosen off (FOOOOK!!) in end i just started her up. all sounded good didnt seem to be blowing but its hard to tell when its idling. checked oil feed. oil was seeping out which i expected so i turned her off and tightened another nut upto the one i overtightened and started her back up - no more oil leaking. not ideal i know.sooooooooooooooooooooooo i let it idle for a while. and give it some revs and yes.. ITS STILL BLOWING !!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHso ive had a weekend of foooking about for nothing but causing another problem in form of the oil feed nut!!fed up now, think im gonna leave it as it is and buy a nice new mani. Carl.
p.s im getting boost creep even though ive ported wastegate which is making me hit fuel cut in 4th. ive got actuator set at .8 bar and it takes forever to hit boost still (above 4k) would it work if i adjusted actuator to boost more, which makes turbo spool faster. & then get a manual boost controller and set that to 0.8 bar? silverglanza
i toatly agree with everyone i got a mani fitted to my can cheap gaskets the mani to turbo gasket blown to bits and i got a toyota one for 19pound job done there thicker aswellalso whats your current mods? Carl.
exhaustair filtergutted catmanihks actuatorim using toyota gaskets now, covered them in loctite copper gasket aswell just to be safe. but obviously didnt work lolwith a gutted cat is it normal to hear a like lack of back pressure noise after you let off revs. kinda like a farting noise lol because ive always assoiciated that noise as blowing. also it sounds really tappty when driving - like a tractor so is that deffently blowing because i cant even see where from
