ollie ryan
right my car has oil everywhere in the engine bay, its all over the rocker cover and it seems to be coming out of the dumpvalve spraying on the inside of the bonnet and its also coming out tof the breather.had the head gasket done bout 6weeks ago so is it the oil seals on the turbo?seriously had enough with my car tempted to break it and get something else or ep95 now. the car has covered just over 144,500kmthanks in advance for the help
scot-ish
answered your own question mate, oil seals
Ryan-11
get a compression test done, mines done this ( oil out the dumpy and breather ) it turned out to be piston/piston ring damage
ollie ryan
thats alright then just hoping it wasnt piston rings lolcheers mateah fuckif its piston ring then i cant be arsed to get the thing fixed anymore
Sparky
Deffo sounds like ringland, piston failure.Should of got the place to check the rings while the head was off
ollie ryan
ah fuck itthink it will be another glanza going to the breakers yard
scot-ish
i would have thought the rings would have been checked when the HG was done, after all, how did you diagnose the HG problem, compression test, so surely there would have been a compression test done once the new HG was fitted? ollie ryan
cars going to get a compression test at 4todayhow much would it cost to repair or is it easier to just get a new engine?
Sparky
Usually if theres excessive play when you move the piston about you could tell
ollie ryan
buit if it was a piston ring would it not loose boost or have a loose in performance?
Russleh
just a heads up tho mate when my ringland and ring were gone a compression test still didnt show it. showed that one cylinder was a couple psi lower and that was it so dont always relly on the compression test.also my car felt fine performance wise. ollie ryan
how did you find out yours had gone then mate?
Sparky
mine really did loose performance but I was driving it for a while lol
Russleh
show people some pics of the oil comin out and stuff then trusted there diagnosis and build another bottom end and swapped them over one day. took 2 pistons out and started to doubt it but the 3rd one was in bits
ollie ryan
well mine is getting through shit loads of oil so i dont want to risk driving it anymore and i have no job to pay to repair now

Sparky
Im not on about mine mate, mine hasnt been apart yetMy mate has a Williams engined clio valver which smoked like a right cunt so done the stem seals and while the head was off we checked for play in the pistons and there was "excessive" play but he chose to ignore it and it still smokes like a cunt. Russleh
im not arguing mate but i stood there while i had a compression test done and i cant remember what it showed but across all 4 there wasnt much difference and when i took my piston out it looked like this and i cant rmember who it was i think it was rory ( dont quote me on that ) that said ringlands dont allways show up in a compression test
scot-ish
maybe one ringland with a small crack might not show a massive difference, but ringlands failed, more than one, i would guarantee it will show down on compression, which ring is it in your pic? i cant tell from it being fuzzy, and did only one come out like that. what youve pictured would show a drop in compression. ollie ryan
so im getting a compression test done in half hour willl post the results up whats the best optiion for me to do if it is piston or ring failure?cheers
Danturbo4311
If they do a compression test & any cylinders are low put a teaspoon of oil down them, then re-test it, if it raises compression then you will no for sure its piston problem (cracked ringland). Out of interest what was up with your last headgasket (did it blow between cylinders or between oil & water gallery). Also did they set up your ignition timing correctly at 10degrees with a timing light after they did the headgasket. The only options you got if it is pistons is, take the head back off & replace the pistons, or go forged, or buy another engine.
