jibend
heyi wondered if it would be possible to just take the enginefrom the corolla 1.6 with the engine 4a-fe and just drop it into n n/a starletwhat would need upgrading and stuff?cheers
whiteglanzav
possibly, depends if the engie mounts are the same, you would need gearbox, driveshafts and maybe hubs too - probobly more effort than overall gain but could be interesting - you'd also have to get the full loom and ecu to make sure it runs right
siren676
wouldnt it have same mounting problems as the 4age?
llawgoch
the monts are not the same, as mentioned above the montings are the sama as 4age so the same issues arise!!
jibend
ahh i see, i have no idea which engines would fit but any other toyota engines that would have a bit more power then the 75 bhp than the standard one?
Glanza_cl
glanza/gt... there isnt much point in the others as the cost to power ratio isnt worth it. you spend more time and effort getting it to work and run then you would enjoying itbide your time mate we have all had to do it then slap a 4efte in there or just buy a glanza/Gt
llawgoch
u can drop a paseo 1.5 5efe strait in i supose, if you can find one, its a strait swap and leaves you with 90 hp. for anymore power you are better off putting a 4efte glanza engine in, or just buy a gt or a glanza and sell your car. jibend
ahh rite cheers guys , and the paseo? is that hard to come by?and that you cant just drop in and go?
llawgoch
ye the paseo is a one for one straight swap. no need to change anything, wel maybe the thermostat housing sensors, but otherwise its as simpl as you can get
jibend
sorted thanks guys, is the paseo rare then? havnt seen many online either
Amjad
Low mileage 5efes from Paseos are not so easy to find!
jibend
yeah i was trying to look around online.... even the car is hard to come by..
ste91
For the effort it would take to fit a 4AFE you may aswell use a 4AGE, even if it's an early 16v, way more tuning potential than a 4EFE/5EFE/4AFE. If you want to go down the N/A route the 4AGE is the way forward IMO. But the 4EFTE is still the best option when you weigh everything up.
jibend
yer but whats the cheapest 4afte i could get? and whats the 4age? what car is that from? cheers by the way
ste91
The 4AGE is basically the high performance version of the 4AGE (F or G in the engine names denote wether it's an economy or performance based engine). It was found in many Toyotas and there are many versions of it, the most recent and most powerful being the "Black top" 20v, which has 5 valves per cylinder and ITB's. jibend
lol i dont want a rocker or a racing engine, only abit more power than the 75 its normally has. does the 75bhp un modified feel slow or slugish by any chance?
Amjad
With an uprated panel filter, Corolla mani (and custom exhaust) it feels nippy enough
jibend
ahh alrite then , cheers for the help and ill look around for my best option. thanks for your help
Guest Enzo
a 4afe or 7afe would be a fairly straight swap but its a heavy engine as the block is cast ironbut having a 1.8 with 140bhp with boltons would be fun as would the induction roar.two of the mounts are the same(geabox and back mount), the third mount you would have to fab, using the donor cars clocks and engine loom would be the only point in the converstion, donor cars are so cheap now to do this(bug eyed corolla,mk1 avensis)
