G4V1N
Hi All, Quick story, I was driving the car other day on the duel carriage way doing about 60mph, I notice a loud knocking noise coming from the engine, and with in 5 sec I lost all power and the engine cut out. I try to restart but It was having none of it, I manage to come off the carriage way and stop safety. I start the car again, and this time It tick over, but comes with a very loud knocking noise, so Iâ??m guessing the big end bearing is gone. My question its what other damage does it cause to the engine once the big end bearing is gone, while driving? Any input will be grateful.
whiteglanzav
aswell as needing a new set of bearings sometimes it can damage the crank and possibly the rod of the worn bearing
ryan lang
could cause alot of damage dude, crank, big end, block pistons, bits could clog up the oil pump and so on

ryan lang
dont drive it or start it up, untill you've taken the sump off and had a look to see if it is the bottom end thats gone.dont forget to drain the oil before you remove the sump
G4V1N
yeah... will try to get round to it maybe over the weekend, also if it turns out not to be the bearing, what else could cause knocking.
whiteglanzav
knocking is usually the bottom end around 2.5 - 3k revs is where its worse but it will be apparent on idleif its the top end it usually makes more of a rattle which can be caused by shims out of tollerencebut if your rings were changed then 99% your rods will have had to come out so they shud have changed the bearings too ............. G4V1N
so if i was to change all the bearing, do i need to grind the rods as well? someone did say to me that the beraing might melt to the rods, don't know if that ture?
