Urgent help needed - car broken down

Recommended Posts

 was on my home and the getting car in gear started to get dificult and sometime had to force it in from all gears, i had to drive the car carefully but the car was fine once in gear and pulling along fine.

came to my worst enemy... the traffic lights....

it wouldn't go in to 1st gear, clutch pedal was fine, as i was trying to ingage into gear it was making a horrible noise like a motorized noise struggling. this was also happening if i treid 2nd or 3rg gear. managed to get it into 1st and tried setting off and the car was jumping as if it wasnt in gear properly, and then managed to get it into 2nd, and then came to another set of lights.

1st gear was rock hard and just managed to get it in but car travelled 15 yards and jerked badly and car stalled and stuck in 1st gear.

i could not get it out off gear with engine turned on or off.

my dad came and managed to drive it home 1 min away but could see it struggle badly ;(

any way got car on drive and tried bleeding the gearbox oil a little and top it up but still no difference, the car will now go into gear when turned off but the pedal is hard at the bottom, gears dont go in easily and still struggle. When engine on it wont go into gear full stop!

i had the clutch recently change about 8 months ago, so i am struggling to see what it is as its the 1st time the car has let me down and it was on a main busy road. i dont know whether its clutch or its slave cylindar or gearbox or something else.

in need of desprate help and solution so i can get it sorted as i need my car on the road for work.

any help is much appreciated.

it sounds like the clutch to me, put a non oe spec clutch in a silver sr i had, after about 5000 miles one of the springs near the center of the clutch dislodged, causing the same symptons as what you have,

the motorized noise, did it sound like squeeling or screatching?

if its clutch that gone do you think it will be repalceable by warranty? as its less than 1 year? dont mind if its clutch as ive got just about enough funds to do that, but i have no idea on gearbox prices and then labour?

if it is the problem

your looking at 100-130 for a clutch dependant on oe spec, exedy or other,

and if you can get labour for around the 100 through an actual garage your doing a good job,

its wasnt any high pitched noise, its was like errrrrrrrrr as if the was constipated and having a sh*t. only makes the noise when clutch pressed down and more so when trying to put it into gear.

could possebly be the release bearing also then, defo sounds like the clutch,.

did they put a new release bearing in when they fitted the new clutch?

Yes it had new release bearing fitted when they changed it. only took the car out today as the weather was nice and fairly warm.

If you have been crunching gears, then if i was you i would replace the gear box as well.

its not worth putting a clutch or whatever in a knackered gearbox will give you lots of trouble later.

The car got towed away by Rac today and got sent to the garage, he says its clutch, car will be looked at 2mro, what sort of millage would a gearbox need changing on average? as if that needs replacing am going to get a 2nd hand one but will need to checked how many miles its covered.
