do i go - drift/track or boring???

Recommended Posts

im selling my v as i have just lost the love i had for it.

the car i buy needs to be my daily, for a while anyway as i cant afford to insure 2 cars.

now im either looking for something drift, something that is track capable (teg or civic etc) or just something smart that runs on the devils fuel but can be re mapped up to a good standard

my thoughts are so far, a 200sx (found one thats been almost fully re cond with proof) an mx5 or a mr2

track wise ive been mesmerised by tegs all week, had a good look at civic type r ep3's and thats about it really unless anyone else has any good ideas??

and for the boring side of things, i dont really know what to look for thats jap and deisel. i like the look of the 150brake sporthatch astras, dad used to have one and it was quick. they can be re mapped to above 200brake and enough torque to spin the world backwards, or a golf gttdi (but these have all been round the world a million times)

if anyone has any ideas on anything else or opionions on what i should go for with a reason why or why not itd be really helpful smile.gif

ill have about 4k to spend max i think.

My mum owns a civic type r ep3, to be honest its realy disapointing.

I realy wanted to like it to the point where i was going to buy one till i drove hers.

Dont this but you off one though you might like it, just found that the hype and the videos of them was realy good but the power delivery just wasnt for me, would imagine it would be same story for the teg but ive never driven one so cant say.

ANother car my mums owned on the diesel front was an Ibiza FR/Cupra 150 bhp standard but with a map can get 200 bhp easy. This was a very torque happy nippy car quite fun to drive.

to be fair im not intersted in a ep3 in the slightest, there common as dog shit and i just find them boring. but its just the fact that you can get one with say 70k on a 02/03 plate for the same price as a teg thats done over 100k and is 2/3 years older.

anyone got opinions on 200sx's?

I am the same as you mate im looking to change.

I have been thinking DC5 then addidng suprecharger.

DC2 adding a low blow turbo setup.

Honda Jazz with k20 swap with possibility of jrsc later on.

Or clio 197 cup.

Then looking at boring diesels.

Astra 1.9 cdti Sri 150 bhp.

Seat Leon 1.9 tdi 150.

Ive also been looking at mx-5 mk1's.

I think they would make a good little reliable car. the 1.6's arent the quickest things on earth, but would feel pretty nippy and very good fun.

The stock mx5 engine (1.6) is practically a turbo version yes. As Amjad said BBR used the exact same egine but produce a factory turbo set up for the mx5, so they all use the same engine.

the difference between the 1.6 and 1.8 is miniscule, there power output and 0-60 times are the same but the 1.8 has a slightly bigger top end and greater power from a turbo charged application (same a 4efte and 5efte type thing)

personally i prefer the 1.6 as its more eager to rev and there is a greater part market out there compared to the 1.8, still there both very good.

very very reliable, i'm bombing round with just under 100k on my engine and its tight as a nuns bun.... most have higher mileage but that is 100% no reason to turn away from a minter. bomb proof if looked after

turbo mx5 is mega fun and quick, over 200bhp in a car that weights under a ton... well you know what that can be like because where on a starlet forum lol

there is a full kit going on mx5nutz for £1300 ish i think, thats everything from mani and turbo, down to the flying miata piggy back. that will produce an easy 250+ bhp

parts arnt that expensive tbh... i have bought soo many parts and modified my 5 a fair bit now but am still well under 1k money wise.
