Would removing the power steering help against torque steer?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone removed the power steering in their starlet? I was thinking of getting a non power steering rack and removing the power steering altogether. I was in a friends GT which was running well over 300bhp and it seemed to hold a better line on boost with the power steering removed. My own Glanza is running 383bhp but when I drive it hard on boost the torque steer can be quite bad at times.

Then again, these are front wheel drive cars with huge power running through where the steering is so maybe it's just part and parcel of a high powered starlet.

Any opinions on this?

The steering rack wont make a difference as thats not where the torque force is originating from, if you have got an helical diff such as a quaiffe i find that this drastically reduced torque steer while on throttle.

Have you got an LSD diff?
