leemillin Posted December 1, 2012 Posted December 1, 2012 hi there, am thinking of buying a turbo starlet but the bottom end has gone. is it worth me buying it? how much will it cost 2 be put right? Quote
Turbo Goose Posted December 1, 2012 Posted December 1, 2012 Another engine is about £400+ for a good one Quote
Flaminsam Posted December 1, 2012 Posted December 1, 2012 Will be easier to just put a engine in it. If your doing the bottom end any who you could do with the engine out. Why not put another engine in the car and rebuild the bottom end one with forged goodies? Quote
AdamB Posted December 1, 2012 Posted December 1, 2012 Don't necessarily need a new engine, but by the time the bottom end gets rebuilt you might as well just rebuild the whole engine. Then its a question of do I forge it or not? Its never ending lol. Quote
Simon Posted December 1, 2012 Posted December 1, 2012 Good condition second hand engines are getting rarer these days too, you never quite know what your buying secong hand. Quote
leemillin Posted December 2, 2012 Author Posted December 2, 2012 i've just got a GT turbo and the clocks are in km, how do i change them 2 mph? Quote
rmsnoel Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 Ive opened a few 4efe uk spec engines and they ALL had 4efte written/cast on the crank. Id say a 4efe block and crank with fte rods and other bolt on parts will be the next thing. I did notice though that the turbo's had a bit more space around where the oil filter goes on but a die grinder would sort that out Quote
AdamB Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 The 4EFE and 4EFTE use the same crank. The FTE crank is marked 4ET. Quote
Starlet SR Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Would a 4efe block be the same as a fte ? The oilfilter housing different maybe?Jus thinking for the future could pick up a 4efe block and forge that rather than buying another fte To build Would it work? I'm sure there's some differences in the block few bolt holes etc Quote
