My head cracked

my head cracked last week I am just asking people what could of caused it it cracked around the exhaust port bolt, I am thinking could it be from were my downpipe hasn't got a bracket as I seen quite alot does have brackets and all the stress could have just been on the manifold bolts of the weight of the turbo etc ? any suggestions please as I don't want to just put a another head on it and it crack again

What manifold you got. Seen loads of head crack that stud mounting point on the gear box end

One off them rubbish ones it was on the car it's cracked in loads of places to I'm going to change it I'm about to put a build thread up now so

The cheap manifold bow on the flange. I would say that's what's cracked your stud mounting hole

Okey so it's just the manifold that's my problem isir?

I'd say so and probably over tightening of the nuts

If you go on my build thread I just uploaded who ever put the manifold on must of over tightened it as its got more thread showing than the other 3 bolts

It's very common for the head to crack in that area, it happens on standard cars so the most likely cause is the restriction in the standard exhaust mani creating a build up of heat in that area.

Mine cracked taking off the standard manifold so i wouldnt say its a problem with aftermarket stuff. Every one ive seen has cracked in the exact same place.

mine cracked and broke off but i got it welded back on at an engine builder

That's basically what happened to mine I was just wondering why it happened I have sourced a new head:)
