Weyro
Is it just that there is so much money to be made in after market ECU's and Piggybacks, that no ones really tried to do it? I know a few cars that have always been considered to have unmappable ecus, then when someone actually really looked into it, it was possible. MK5/6 RS2000 for example. russ78
its something to do with nobody has the ability or software to read or flash whats on the chips inside as toyota hold that information and show no signs of releasing it anytime soonbut maybe one day it may be possible who knows
turbo Grant
The ecu has 2 chips one that holds the map and one that encrypts the data. You can read the data off the ecu but can't change it due to the encryption. You need to remove both chips and install diffent ones. There is a big thread on another forum about it all
Weyro
so can you chip them in the same way honda obd1 ecus can?
AdamB
No honda ones are re-flashed. You cannot reflash the chip due to the encryption and or the chip not being subject to UV light which removes the data, then new data loaded onto the chip. The reason why no one has done it over here is simply because no one can understand japanese lol. I believe they can be re-programmed over in japan, but not worth the hassle, time or money to send an ecu over when its just easier to get a programmable management system over here. Driver
It can and has been done on Starlets the same as they do when socketing the Honda ECUs but nobody wants to put the time and effort needed to crack the standard ecu. Piggybacks are much cheaper then mapping the stock ecu would cost anyway.
