redline
That sounds like release bearing trouble bud That's what I thought but td assurd me it was the input shaft bearing? How can u tell with out taking the gear box off? It was fine before they changed the clutch and all of a sudden it's the input shaft bearing :/ I don't get it

AdamB
The shaft bearing has no impact on the way gears are engaged or disengaged. The shaft bearings are there to simply support the load of the shaft.Could be a few things :Fluid changeSlave cylinderRelease bearingSelector fork

AdamB
If its making a noise when the clutch pedal is depressed then thats the release bearing. There's only a couple of clutches that make that noise and I've never heard of the Spec clutch doing it before. Blitz and ORC Ogura are the main ones which make a like rattling noise. Another problem that sometimes happens with aftermarket clutches is that the slave rod creates drag, to overcome this a longer slave rod needs to be fitted. Only ever heard of this problem with Competition clutches, but am sure theres others that have the problem. Edited July 4, 2013 by AdamB

AdamB
The release bearing would make it hard to select gears yeah. Who replaced the clutch mate? I'd take it back to them and get them to sort it.Drop yaristurbo a pm mate, he works for a transmissions place so he'll deffo be able to give you an answer. redline
Tuning developments did mate.... It is stiff goingIn to gears somtyms iswell mate They did have a look at it just by listeningTo it and they said its the input shaft bearing which I dont think it could be as it was fine before i gave it them when I went to collect itThe noise was there iswell but I thought itWas the engine as it needed runningIn thought it was piston slap or somthing lol
AdamB
Nah I highly doubt it would be the shaft bearing if it was fine when it went in. To me anyway it sounds something to do with the release bearing or the slave cylinder.

AdamB
I have known brand new release bearings to be stuffed, its a pain in the ass to have to take the gearbox back off though. Although its not so bad on a starlet. Seem's like your in a bit of a shit situation mate, might be worth asking Mike if they can just take another look as your not happy with the way the car is. Are you far away from them?

Are you far away from them?Am about 90 miles from them, and they don't want to sort nothing I've already spoke to mike about it loads first he goes bringIt down then I'll have a look when u bring it down for mapping so I did that and then they didn'tMention nothing about it till I told them, then they had a quick look and said it was the inputShaft bearing...... He goes we can strip it and ifIt turns out not to be the release bearing there gna charge me for labour which is fair enuffBut tbh it's got to that point now were I just don'tKnow what there going to do, I just don't trust them now incase it is the realease bearingAnd they just say its the input shaft bearing and charge me for labour, so my plan is to take it to somone else and if it turns out to be a fuked realease bearing or cluch I will be taking action
AdamB
Best to get a second opinion on it mate. Maybe if you have a transmission specialist local to you it might pay off to drive the car down to them and get one of their employee's to drive it etc and give you some more feedback

redline
Doesn't sound like td are willing to admit fault but im sure there's others on here that more about this issueI know mate after spending all that money u would think a reputable company like TD would sort it no problem now am stuck in the middle....Will be taking it to someone local after japfest and if it does turn out to be the clutch or release bearing I will be striaght on the phone to td
RobSR
Seen this problem a few times specifically on exedy paddle clutches. Can happen when they crack/pop the springs out of the plate...that or release bearing. Take the box off and have a look.
starbogt
I fitted a spec 6 stage 4 on mine a while ago from TD and the release bearing is as noisy as the one I took off after 1300miles ! While its working I ain't messing about taking box off again Lol my gears were sticking too but I've found its a combination of the gear cables needing lubrication and the clutch slave cylinder having too much play ..
