EPnick22 Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 anyone ever tried fabricating the tube and flange and having it fixed to the collector? Ive heard a few things that people have done it, and my dad's a fabricator/engineer so am tempted to do it on my current td04 manifold, rather than spending god knows how much on a new one Quote
Dan_Henderson Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Think it's quite hard to fab a good looking 1 but you could always just wrap it Quote
EPnick22 Posted September 2, 2013 Author Posted September 2, 2013 well my dads been fabricating and tool making for 40 years and we have 4 different welders here in the workshop so I'm hoping it shouldn't be any trouble, just wondering if anyone had any experience with it, like any problems etc Quote
AdamB Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Yes has been done, you just need to place it into the collector. Providing its welded well it will work, that said you may find it will crack eventually. Quote
Dan_Henderson Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Might need a bar or two welded in from flange to flange to help hold the weight, will help Provent the welds cracking Quote
EPnick22 Posted September 2, 2013 Author Posted September 2, 2013 yeah I was planning on bracing it, and also brace the screamer to the decat too for extra support, the welds at the moment are all in mint condition, seems like theres plenty of room to do and cause of the style of manifold it is, I wont need to start chopping into welds Quote
rasslenny Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 i just did mine my self looks great and braced it all the places you said you were going to as well... this is not the first time ive done it this way either as long as its done properly it will last ... the last one i did is on the road 4 years now Quote
EPnick22 Posted September 2, 2013 Author Posted September 2, 2013 nice one man! any suggestions at all before doing it? or while doing it? Quote
TurboTobz Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 i had a toyosports mild steel one with ewg flange, held the weight of td05 for around 4-5 years with no cracking. lol. Quote
EPnick22 Posted September 2, 2013 Author Posted September 2, 2013 wow haha did you have it braced? Quote
Phil Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 i had a toyosports mild steel one with ewg flange, held the weight of td05 for around 4-5 years with no cracking. lol. cant argue with that experience! bet you enjoyed all the toyosports slabbering while you drove away happily at your exgated setup!! TurboTobz Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 cant argue with that experience! bet you enjoyed all the toyosports slabbering while you drove away happily at your exgated setup!! Phil Aye some have had them do them well, some people fit them like tits and wonder why they crack running high egts on an fcd set up. I didn't pay anything for it, and it done me very well indeed. I just bolted it up nice and square new brass nuts, and heat wrapped very carefully! Quote

TurboTobz Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Couldn't agree more! I can't say there top quality but tbh for what you pay they're a decent entry manifold! Quote
EPnick22 Posted September 2, 2013 Author Posted September 2, 2013 what size tubing you guys use for the job? only piece of mild steel pipe i have is 35mm outside measurement Quote
TurboTobz Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 25-28mm/1.5" area IIRC don't hold me to that I'll double check. Whats the Inner diameter Quote
TurboTobz Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 The person who done my manifold got a screamer pipe extension thing on ebay with two flanges cut one end short welded that to the manifold one end long bolted flange to the ewg, screamer. Quote
EPnick22 Posted September 2, 2013 Author Posted September 2, 2013 and the screamer flange is the same size as the wastegat flange? Quote
TurboTobz Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 yeah, exactely the same, 1.5" area should be fine buddy Quote
EPnick22 Posted September 2, 2013 Author Posted September 2, 2013 alright so 1.5" inside measurement, and what thickness tubing did you use? Quote
