Claiming back money for items 'lost in post'

Recommended Posts

So I sent a set of pauter rods and wiseco pistons to a forum member on here back in July, he contacted me recently asking if I'd had chance to send them - to which I replied of course I sent them shortly after you paid. Anyhow between Kent and Ireland these bits have disappeared....

Has anyone had to claim back for an item sent via Royal Mail before? Unfortunately it wasn't tracked and had no return address, (It cost £25 to post them alone). I've never had this kind of trouble before with RM, I wonder how were to prove they were sent, the value of them etc?

I sold them cheap as they did require a replacement rod and had some damage (£100, which the compensation on the postage fully covers).

Any tips? I haven't been able to get to a post office to grab the form but hopefully will be able to get one after work tomorrow, so I am unsure on what the requirements/proofs needed are. However a quick phone call to the post office I sent them through revealed they couldn't care less and that I need to fill a form out. Luckily I had kept a hold of the receipt of postage which has weight/time and date/address of recipient on it.

Im not 100% but i think RM only cover up to £50 unless you pay for extra cover :(

I paid extra it's defo covered for £100 it says it on the receipt.

didn't u track it dude ?

No mate, I actually don't think they could offer it for air mail IIRC. Even so I charged the buyer £15 for postals and actually cost me £25, I'd hate to imagine the cost of tracked although I know I should have got it if available.

I've had to do this before down to an iem they damaged (They threw a brand new bike frame over my fence into the back garden and the headtube ended up bent!!!)

This is going back about 4 years but I doubt it's changed much, you fill in a form from the post office, might be able to do it online now, aslong as no one has signed for it at the other end you should get your cash back.

Be warned though they will argue the shite out of it. Apparently a 6 foot + drop onto concrete wouldn't have bent my bikes head tube and it was the sellers responsiblitiy for not adding extra bubble wrap. The headtube had smashed through the polystyrene packaging when it hit the floor. They paid back half of the value and wouldn't budge on a penny more. Fookers.

not that im saying u didn't try to or ask but tracking it gives you something to fight with when it comes to claiming your money back off the bastards
