smithyithy
Hi guys, quick intro - Chris, 23, West Midlands. I was originally into VW's, then got an immaculate standard Glanza 4 years ago, but had trouble with my license and insurance so had to sell it, I was gutted. Anyway, few years of making do with cheap runarounds, doing my bike license etc, I'm due a company car, so literally this past week I've decided to bugger off my cheap runaround and get another Glanza. Went and viewed this today (advert might vanish now it's sold): http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/toyota/starlet/facelift-model-toyota-glanza-v-1-3-turbo/1762102?utm_source=share And left a deposit to pick it up next week. Plans are usual - keep it clean, serviced, and up to stage 1, around 150-160bhp. I'll be sorting the handling first though, I had all this researched and planned back with my old one, but never got that far. I'll put a thread up when I've got it home and go from there, I'll be sticking around no doubt for tech advice and a bit of banter. I've already made my first tech thread if you don't mind me directing you to it, if anyone has any ideas: http://www.ukstarletowners.com/topic/71395-turbo-timer-where-is-it/ Cheers, Chris. Chris Green
Welcome aboard! Looks like you have picked up an absolute minter. Health to enjoy!
smithyithy
Thanks dude. Yeah it's a lovely example I managed to find, didn't waste much time with it lol. I like to find standard ones, even though it seems you get a lot more for your money buying pre-modified.. I'm really picky and like to start with a clean slate. This will be a weekend project / toy anyway, so I can take it slow and do as much as possible myself, learning along the way and putting my own mark on it. So excited to get it now
Chris Green
I would prefer to buy standard too, gives you the chance to make it your own. Plenty of knowledge can be picked up on here. Lots of information at your fingertips. Looking forward to the progress, any plans as of yet?
smithyithy
Clean it! Lol, I'm a bit of a detailing nut so even though it's already clean, first job will be to get it in my mates garage the weekend and give it a thorough detail. For piece of mind too - it'll need a good coat of wax if we're due another heavy winter. Might do a small service, the guy said it's recently had oil, filter, front pads and a front bearing anyway. Probably get a full alarm system sorted next, again for piece of mind, better safe than sorry. Then on to mods - tempted to shop around for some new wheels, got a few sets in mind either buy new or source used.. I might go for 16's, 45 profiles and lowered accordingly. Hoping springs will lower it a sufficient amount initially as coilies are expensive when not a necessity. The tyres that are on it, are good condition, not not really 'performance' tyres, so may as well do wheels and tyres in one. Then the obligatory rear ARB, panhard rod, anti-lift / castor kit, and a boost gauge. Might get it RR'd then to see what it's running, if all's well I'll look into mainfold, decat, actuator... Don't wanna go down the FCD route, so for my take on 'stage 1', I'll try to keep it just below fuel cut while making best use of the power that's there (150 possible before fuel cut?) Then eventually look into a stage 2 with an ECU etc, get the most out of the CT9 (~200?). Don't know if I want to go down the TD route in all honestly, I might aim for the 200 mark then focus on handling and braking etc. As you can see I've been thinking about this quite a bit haha..
