Permanent Live, Door sensors, Clock, Roof Light

Recommended Posts

Few questions here,

1. Currently the backlight in my clock doesnt work but you can still see the time some times when there is light on it, is that just a matter of replacing the clock?

2. The sensor for sensing the door is opened doesnt seem to work as the light on the dash doesnt come on, I took apart the sensor and fixed it but doesnt seem to make any difference. I dont know if im measuring it right but im getting roughly 0.3v on the red wire running towards this, any idea's?

3. The light on the roof doesnt seem to work either, from what I gather the two wires on the roof going to the light are a permanent live and the other is switched for when the door is opened. Maybe im wrong but, im not too good with electrics. Again from what I can gather the two wires have 0.3v going to them at all times.

4. Lastly the permanent live that goes to the radio wasnt working so I had to take one from the hazard lights.

Fuses seem good, But have you any ideas whats going on?

Thanks

I would say earth somewhere if all the permanent lives are playing up, i might be wrong and im sure someone will correct me if i am, is that all the permanent lives are connected

The roof light earth is on just the chassis so that rules that one out.

Id be happy to strip the dash and whatever if somebody give me a idea where and what to look for but i dont really have a clue at the minute

Has anybody got any diagrams or a loom to follow where the wires from these sensors go. As far as I can see the door one goes into what looks to be a control box in just below the drivers steering wheel area.

Any tips or pictures would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

the roof earth is not to be ruled out at all,

in fact its nearly definatley this.......i fitted up some additions to interior lighting and had to do some wiring to the middle toplight in the starlet and the earth was fucking awful and only just worked.they get moisture and corroded slightly and make for a very very poor earth in my case.

do check it,the screw that holds the light in is an earth for a start.this needs cleaning the other screw isnt an earth,

then the bad bit was the plug going into the unit, this was correded and chrome plating on connections was rusty and totally shot (had to scrape away the flaked chrome/plating just to get any sort of connection)

bet you this willbe ure issue !!

So do you think roof interior light isn't working because of the earth? That's fine I will check that just to be sure. Do you know what the box is down in the drivers footwell where the leads seem to go from the door sensors? Is this the central locking unit? I found a earth down in there that was pretty rough but could only clean it up a bit.

The clock also resets its time everytime I get into the car and the backlight in it is very very faint.
