craigyboi
Took the sump off and got the oil pressure relief valve off so going to take it to Toyota and get a new one so here's hoping this is the problem
Ollieh17
I'd be dropping the main and rod caps and checking the bearings
patman
Definitely what Ollie said, that's your first call 👍🏻
craigyboi
Does anyone know what the bolts on the bottom of the rods need tightened too. I've been told I'll need a torque wrench
patman
main bearings: 29nm then 58nmbig end bearings: 20nm then 40 nmBut please could someone else confirm this too 👍🏻
Ollieh17
If it's forged it will probably have are bolts so will be a different Torque Edited August 5, 2017 by Ollieh17
craigyboi
Changed the pressure relief valve and that's made a huge difference. Now on start up I'm getting 4 bar but after 15 minutes it's dropping to 7psi at 800rpm. But 3000rpm I'm getting 42 psi . Is this good ? I'm thinking it could be better ? clubman s
mines read as foll 20psi at 950rpm on a hot engineover 2000- 2500rpm it goes up to 60-65psi using semi sinth oil 10w40Motul Edited August 12, 2017 by clubman s
K2NXY
whip your sump off, and take the oil pressure relief valve off.. strip it and clean it. I have even put a 1mm washer in to umph the pressure a little. I take mine on track and suffer from low oil pressure on idle when really warm. They can get clogged up after a period of time and become sticky. For anyone that has the same issue and thinks the worst give this a go first 👍

craigyboi
It's not the bearings
patman
Have a good read through this:http://www.aa1car.com/library/us1097.htm
Ollieh17
Not the bearings...havent even looked at them. Wether they are the cause or not, Any period of low oil pressure has the chance to damage the bearings
AdamB
Does the oil pressure light come on when at hot idle? Dismissing the bearings is ludacrous without checking them. Forged engines are far from indestructable.
craigyboi
Yeah checked while I had it all off. The car is off the road I'm not driving it until I fix the problem. had Lots of people telling me about this 1mm washer. It's on 5-40 fully. would a 10-40 semi be better ? craigyboi
No the light stays off. It was coming on before though
Ollieh17
5/40 or 10/40 would be no different. You could try a 50. The thing is there is something causing the low oil pressure. And spacing the valve is just masking the issue as is thicker oil really. Oil pressure is greatly affected by the clearance on bearings, cams etc
K2NXY
I run 5w 50 now and havent had a problem, prior i was running 10w 60 but that is just too thick for those engines 👍
craigyboi
I think I may have found the problem just drained the oil and took the sump off and it was staring me in the face I went a bit crazy with the gasket sealer so it's spewed into the sump and the pick up has sucked it all up so I've cleaned it all off and put it back together not going mental with the gasket sealer. So fingers crossed for tomorrow.
craigyboi
So never worked. Put it up for sale now. How much ball park for a bottom end rebuild
