briggers Posted November 23, 2007 Share Posted November 23, 2007 what the hell is one of those thingys on top of peoples rocker cover. mines got a pipe on it. some people have a small air filter on it. what does this do and what is the difference having that to the pipe. WallaceGlanza Posted November 23, 2007 Share Posted November 23, 2007 Its a breather filter, the engine needs to breathe so requires some opening to vent gases.The filter just keeps it a bit tidier as any oil which is blown out will soak into the filter instead of straight out the end of the pipe.The best thing to have as an oil catch can to keep things properly tidy. A crankcase breather system is usedto release this pressure. If the breather system becomesblocked, the crankcase pressure builds internally. Asthe pressure increases, the oil is pushed through thearea offering the least resistance, such as the dipstick ora seal. Filters on the rocker cover just get soaked in oil and then ends up spraying it over the cover in the end.Invest in a catch can as starbos do enjoy breathing heavy.
