turbo Grant
Could be a cable bending and not selecting 5th properly

german4efte
hi, you have changed complete gearbox? for me it seams to be a problem from Inside the gearbox. the only part which hold the gear at driving in his position is a little sprocket at the gearwheels inside the gearbox. the are slighly inclined to hold into each other at driving examplehttp://golf3td.de/forum/download/file.php?id=1287&mode=view you see the big gear, 5th. right ther under is little sprocket ringm this holds switching sleeve at driving. the little golden ring are the syncors. when you put in the 5th gear, the switching sleeve is moving up (over sprocket and syncro) and the gear is ok... when the littel sprockets are worn gear will popp out you need such part new and the switching sleeve uper polished surface is for syncros, lower you see the sprocketring. the up sharpened teath (at lower picture 1) are needed to put in the gear andthe lower part of the sprocketring (at lower picture 2) you need to hold the gear at place when driving.the big lower teath ring is the gear Edited June 29, 2014 by german4efte
