Devs313
Anyone got a good tutorial on how to change a cam belt on a 4efte? Found a couple in the tutorial section, but one had no pics, and the other ones pics were not the best. Never done one before, but done everything else maintenance wise on my car so far. Is it worth a shot, or just take it to a mechanic?
The_Notorious_C_A_T
Easy enough to do, bit of a pain for access from what I remember but not mental hard.
grum-glanza
I done one before with a mechanic over my shoulder but it wasn't to hard, the one thing I told again and again was mark sure the timing marks on the cam and crank are perfectly lined up but both taking off the old belt and putting on the new one
Devs313
Been doing some research today and going to have a go. How did you both manage to removed the pulley bolt?Is there a locking tool I can buy to do this?
patman
Grum is right but if your very new to doing this firsty see if you have a good friend who has the time to talk you through it step by step because if you get it wrong it's not bloody good so obviously if it's just you on your own and your unsure about doing something just bite your pride and get it done by a mechanic 👍
The_Notorious_C_A_T
Pulley bolt I bought a tool to fit into the two holes in the pulley to hold it tight then came off no problem.
Devs313
Cheers for the headsup,....one of my buds whos a mechanic has offered to lend a hand. He asked me to find out whether the locking tool is toyota specific or just a universal one?
The_Notorious_C_A_T
Just anything with 2 prongs that will fit into the holes and brace them to hold it steady. Thing I bought was adjustable, although you could probably make something yourself easily enough, one bar with 2 holes in, and another bar with 2 holes in, join them in a Y shape and on the ends put 2 bolts that will fit into the pulley holes, sorted. WallaceGlanza
You could also be a bit rougher and jam something against the flywheel teeth...
